On "My Car Story" we're at the Carlisle Events in Carlisle PA on 7-10-21.
We're looking at a 1969 Imperial LeBaron 2 Door in Black Paint. The car comes with the factory 440 CI V8 engine, and an automatic transmission (there was no 4 Speed option).
The car's Owner is Tim Kelly. Tim’s had this car since 2021. He shares he likes big unique cars, and this one certainly is unique and bog, so let’s taking it for a ride.

Back in the day, friends of the family had a 1972 Imperial sedan. The ride was unbelievable. If younger people would feel the comfort, they would scoff at today's cars. After a long day at work, or on a long ride, you got in those plush seats and the car pampered you!

The tab on the left trunk gutter is where the trunk light switch mounts. Just a single wire plunger type that turns the light off wen the trunk lid is closed.

On my iPad, I could see a touch of the original green when the trunk lid was open. Imperials never got the sales or respect they were due. If you were a teenager in the late 60’s borrowing Dad’s Imperial for a Friday night date, you didn’t want to be past curfew trying to sneak in… those headlight covers closing could wake up the entire neighborhood! Production of the 1969 Imperial LeBaron Coupe was 4,572 units. 1969 was last year for pillared 4-door sedan. 1970 was last year for Imperial Crown. Fuselage Imperials shared bodies with cheaper Chryslers except for three inch longer wheelbase. Instrument panel was similar to cheaper Chrysler. Fiberglass in rear window replaced soldered lead panel in early 1960s LeBaron which rotted and bubbled over time. Due to shared bodies, fuselage Imperials and the 1974 to 1975 Imperials were not as distinctive as Cadillacs and Lincolns at that time...but did offer exclusive rear seat air conditioning and 4wheel disc brakes. Imperial coupes are also generally rare.

Oh boy, does this video trigger car memories. I owned and drove a 69 2dr Le Baron right through to the late 70’s, through 2 gas shortages, a story unto itself! I really appreciate seeing the interior, it’s just as beautiful as I remember it, what a comfortable car for a long road trip. You didn’t show it, but those tail lights also function as sequential turn signals. The car doesn’t have drink holders, but everyone got their own ash tray and lighter, a sign of the times. There are very nicely concealed storage compartments under each of the door arm rests. Yeah, I’m having a nice trip down memory lane, no telling when I might come back.

I remember these... One of my relatives had a brand new dark blue one when I was 7 years old and I would say, "Look at the big car with the funny eyes!" Huge inside and outside, they were! Land Yachts!

My '70 Cuda with a vinyl roof also had a different smaller rounded rear window then the painted roof cars. That tab you pointed out on the left side of the trunk was the mounting point for the trunk light switch. My '65 Chrysler 300 Convertible is probably only a few inches shorter than that Imperial!! Very cool!

What a "flotation device" the side profile of the 2 door Imperials and Chryslers of this era are just amazing, stylish yet almost comical. Another gem find Lou!! 👍👍

Well Lou this gentleman made an incredible find & acquisition of Chrysler history certainly I think a golden era for Chrysler. Always a treat my friend see what you come up with. I know those 440s would burn the rubber off of those cars.

I love the front end the hidden headlights set the look of the car off ! Power and ride ! I call that green Hunter Green it’s the color I have on my Super Sport ! It looks black until you get close ! Thanks Lou another dream ride !
