1969 PLYMOUTH ROAD RUNNER - A RARE RUNNER CONVERTIBLE

The Plymouth lineup for 1969 had 14 models to choose from starting with the Valiant 100, Valiant Signet, Barracuda, Belvedere, Satellite, Sport Satellite, Road Runner, GTX, Fury I, II, and III, the VIP model, and Suburban station wagons. The muscle cars are reaching their zenith and Plymouth provided the Satellites, Road Runner, and GTX intermediates. The Road Runner in particualr, came in coupe, hardtop coupe, and convertible coupe like this one shown. This is the second time I've seen a R R convertible and this is super rare : 1 of 2,128 copies sold. The Runner was platformed on a 116 inch wheelbase, same as the Satellites and the GTX. The convertible had a base price of $ 3,313 and was powered with either a 383 cube V8 with 335 horsepower, or a 428 with 425 horses. Of course, this Runner has been restored professionally and it looks brand new. What a winner Runner. Thanks for viewing.

That is a fine looking Road Runner, they did a nice job on it. Did anyone else notice that it looked like it had the fresh air option for the intake. I can't remember what Plymouth called it.

@@rustybrown1835 I was thinking that the term Air Grabber was used on the 1970 models. The one that would rise up when opened. I need to look thru some of my books. I'm not saying that you are wrong by any means.

My 69 RR was 383 with auto trans and A C Tame but more than enough for me.

@@55lincoln unfortunately it was a great car to have ....HAD...sold it in 74 for $400. Gas crisis and no where to store. my current mechanic has one he restored. Only 1100 or so 69 converts were made that year.

@@nommag61 Man, I am so sorry that you couldn't keep your wonderful Road Runner. Those convertibles are so rare. At least you have some great memories. Thanks for telling your story. I wish it had had a better ending.

The 60s was Chrysler's best years. I use to be a Mopar Man, but not anymore. Chrysler has been going down hill for a long time and that's ashame. I still love the classics like this one.

Yes indeed, the sixties was Glory Years for Mopar. They've come a long way since then, sometimes up and sometimes down. Mercedes did no favors with their partnership, and now Fiat maybe stabilizing. We shall see. The only Mopar I own is currently a Chrysler 300 and it serves me well. Many thanks to you for enjoying this Road Runner and your comments.

You never saw many of these road runners in a convertible, some were even coupes, not even a hardtop. This car was one of Chrysler's better ideas. I told you once, my friends older brother got a 68 R Runner base coupe with a 383 and a Bench seat, I think by 70, going to JR college, the gas was killing him, and it was traded in on a 2dr Toyota LoL

I remember that story and yes, bad gas mileage can take the joy out of driving, but what a shame to trade it in for a Toyota.

@@55lincoln it was 1970, I think he drove it all through college, I'm sure the insurance was much cheaper even then for a 18-19 year old
