I was stationed at Phan rang during this same time and witnessed these birds every night We loved seeing them up there doing their thing. Absolutely bad ass birds. I thank the crews for all they did for us.

.... I was one of the guys on the ground using "Stinger" ... I and my SOG Recon team were on a HoChiMin road and river watch on the Laos border to vector in truck traffic and used them for Prairie Fire support when those bad boys tried to overrun our hilltop position ... Saved My Team more than once on that mission

Please pardon the pictures of the AC 119 K Stinger that were used in this documentary. The AC 119 G Shadow did not include the 2 winged jet engines, as pictured in some parts, only the the 2 prop engines. The Shadow also had 4 machine guns on the left side, not the 4 + 2 configuration shown in some images. And finally, the large light behind the side guns was only used on the Stinger 119 K, and is quite different from the light used on the the Shadow 119 G. Due to a lack of available photography of the 119 G, I opted to use the photos of the 119 K in some parts.

That’s correct! AC119K Stinger had the jet pods. And two 20mm cannons additional.

I was at Phu Cat AB in 1970 . There were some AC 119 Shadow Gunships at Phu Cat. Back in that time the only way to call home was by HAM radio. If memory serves me right it was called MARS. MIlitary Affiliated Radio System . The MARS building was on the base perimeter maybe because of the antennas. You could only "call home" late at night.....after midnight because of the time change and to allow the ham radio system to get clear signals. It was always crowded...sometimes you had to wait over an hour before you get a call in. I had to wait one night for my turn so I decided to take a walk outside. I think it was around 2.00 AM...it was a very nice night when all of a sudden I was lit up by an AC 119 Gunship. It felt very strange to be the center of attention and those guys up there did not have itchy trigger fingers. At that time I decided it might be better to go inside. I waved and slowly walked back to the building................Never forgotten that.

I had a few missions to Phu Cat. We pulled alert. If the bad guys attacked, we would launch and suppress the fire.

Great channel, just subscribed. My dad may have been the instructor pilot mr van over refers too. He was the 14th sow (wing) stan/eval pilot so he was in charge of pilot training for 17th and 18th sos. Major Bill Hoover. Spent time with every flight of both squadrons in country flying with aircrews. I’m sure they know each other. My dad started flying supplying troops in korea in the 119 and did a bunch of other flying in c130s and gunships. Cory, reach out me and if your dad is still in good health, maybe we can get our fathers together by phone or zoom or something

VNAF AC 119K was one of the last VNAF combat plane was shot down by the invading NVA while trying in vain to defend Saigon on the morning of 30/4/75 .The aircrews led by Lt.Thanh were all perished with the exception of a door gunner .The other shot down VNAF aircraft was an A1 Skyraider piloted by Major Phung .He managed to landed his damaged aircraft but later executed by the murderous NVA on the same day

@@snakeplisken4119 Those M41 or M48 tanks belonged to the ARVN 3rd Brigade led by Brigadier General Tran Quang Khoi who attempted to make the last stand on the northern approach to Saigon. Unfortunately the gutless President Duong Van Minh ordered the surrender . General Khoi along with all his men were marched into captivity . General Khoi was imprisoned for 17 years before he was released & allowed to emigrate to the US
