@@flatbrokegarage so right, as I cruise the FB marketplace when I find an old six banger I am interested. When it has been swapped out( usually poorly done) I loose interest. When I was a young buckaroo I wanted big power. I now appreciate how well the cheapest entry modest models performed. And they were reliable and good value. My grandparents both were six banger folks. I am now a gimpy 77 and can no longer turn wrenches so I live in your efforts.have a great day

Amen, man. I bought a 1975 Nova to daily. It has a tiny 262 v8,and I have no intention of changing it out. Good mileage, fires off every time, still runs at freeway speeds when needed.

Good to see you rebuild that little six instead of dropping a 302 into it, like most people would seem to do! Those base model 4 door cars like that were very common when I was a little kid in the 1970s and they were all those little six cylinders just like that. It’s nice to finally hear that little tickety-tap six cylinder sound coming out of one of these base cars instead of the V8 vroom-vroom; just like it came from the factory and just like I remember them! Many of the people who bought the base cars new were often older, retire folks. Unlike retirees today, those people had lived through the Great Depression and were very thrifty with their limited incomes. The didn’t drive far or often, so these cars didn’t rack up tons of miles and often spent most of their lives in garages. By looks of it, your car was probably babied for many years by it’s original owner, before it’s luck ran out when it finally got sold off to less caring second hand owners, used and abused a little until it found it’s way into the yard. It’s good to finally see these cars appreciated for more than parts for sportier models! In my humble opinion, these cheapie models always seem to give less problems than their higher performance or sportier brothers! Maybe because they were never abused or because of their simplicity, but it seems like if you take good care of them, they’ll take good care of you! Nice work!

Thanks! I guess I have a soft spot for this underrated little car. I'm am restoring it's big brother a 71 Torino GT. I love it too, however after learning the history of it I had to keep it alive and running just as it came from the factory. I'm the 3rd owner (other than the yard) and plan on keeping it. Thanks for watching!

My first engine rebuild was a Ford 200 6 cyl for a Fairmont. brings back lots of great memories! I learned the 250 used the V8 bellhousing pattern the hard way in bringing one home from the Junkyard in hopes of installing it in place of a 200 in a fox mustang. oh well. good times.
