Although I now am into C2 Corvettes...I am forever a Buick guy. Flint knew how to build cars. I had my '70 Buick A body for 31 years, ended up with a 462 I built from a '74 Buick 455 block, aluminum Stage 1 heads, high lift split duration cam, big tube headers and a carb too small at 800cfm through all-original GS ram air induction moving the car through a Chevy 12 bolt because the engine murdered the Buick 10 bolt rear. I love my '66 Sting Ray but wow do I miss my '70 Skylark Custom. It would have beat a tow truck in a tug of war.

That car was olive green with a black vinyl top and 5 of the sport rims came with it. My gf at the time cried when I scrapped it! Goodday Lou, The original Hemi Killer. You would not believe it but about 2 years ago a Muscle car exactly the same as that GSX GSX was up on the hoist at my mechanics. I was absolutely totally blown away to be in the presence of a GSX. Gary & Reece my mechanic friend couldn't see the significance of a GSX. I rattled off the number's & that it would cost the best part of $ 150,000 Aussie dollars to buy a car like this & if you are lucky to find they thought I was talking garbage. Didn't get to go for a spin in it, but just to see & feel it, it was amazing. A Apollo White GSX in Australia what are the chances. So just letting you know there is one somewhere in Melbourne, Australia. Great video awesome idle. Your number 1 Fan in Australia Louis Kats from Melbourne Australia ☺ 👍 ❤

Lou, the 1970 Buick GS 455 Stage 1 was the fastest production car of 1970, with a 10.99 quarter mile time at well over 100 mph! I think it was THE BEST BUICK EVER BUILT! Most muscle car enthusiasts believe that too! Good find! See ya soon!

Guys, I distinctly remember Buicks claim in print in an old car and driver magazine that their GS 455 Stage 1 package was doing the quarter mile in 10.99! It was only believable because it was the fastest production car that Buick ever made, and I don't know who they had driving that car, when it allegedly pulled the 10.99 @ something like 124 mph, but, realistically, it's not that far off for the Buick, because Pontiac, Oldsmobile, were using varying set ups with their versions of the general motors 455 cubic inch big block motors. Pontiac was using it's 455 in their Trans Am model, I believe it was the upgrade to the Bandit series, and their unbelievable Super Duty, which was basically a General Motors truck motor that Pontiac decided belonged in a top of the line muscle car. I remember being a kid , literally praying that the wacko commiefornians and their piss poor ideas of adding those asinine smog pumps, and every damned weight adding, useless, anti-pollution gadget the ECONUTS could dream up to make the whole muscle car industry SLOWER, NOT A SHRED LESS POLLUTION CREATING, BUT CERTAINLY LESS EFFICIENT WHEN IT CAME TO GETTING THE ENGINE POWER TO THE WHEELS, - and in a side note, while I was only between 5 & 8 years old when they created and produced ALL the unbelievable Buick GS 455 Stage 1 cars, ( At the time, Buick chose the Apollo White or a Yellow, both choices basically offset with a satin black stripe set that didn't follow the GS body lines, instead they hugged the top of the fender, went beneath the side windows, crossed the rear quarter where the skylark 350 version's vinyl top would have been capped off with stainless steel trim, and "ended," BY blending into the rear spoiler, which was basically covered in secondary trim blackout. I guess this was Buick designer's attempt at letting the customer know he owned a real muscle car, but, it's really not that much of a prize when you couldn't even order a manual transmission, because they made ALL GS's as "LUXURY SPORTS " models, so, making the Stage 1 faster through self-assurance of a manual transmission simply wasn't offered as an option! ( I knew a local drag racer/mechanic who hated automatic transmissions, and he pulled the original Buick auto tranny out of his Apollo White, GS, and built a 4 speed manual transmission for it, and that car was basically THE RACEDAY WINNER, because no one could beat him!

These cars are fantastic... By far the best built muscle cars. Used to own a 1968 GS 400 4-speed convertible with a few Kenne Bell engine upgrades... Even the more normal GS models with 400 - 455 engines were pretty fast off the assembly line... Compare any Mopar to these build quality wise and you will notice the difference... When my 2015 Hellcat is sold I will purchase a GS again and revive the good times...

These were rare in comparison to Chevelle's and GTO's. The Buick 455 made huge torque even in the low tuned models of Electra 225 and the Estate wagons.

Thanks for this one Lou. Great description of a truly great car. The reason that 510 ft lbs of torque came on at 2,800 RPM's, so by the time the other guy was shifting into second or third, they were looking at that rear view of the Beast! Keep up the good work. ✌️Johnny J

That's a beautiful Buick GS-X! At least you got to take it out on a cruise, unlike the last GS you featured that was in an indoor car show, and all we could do was just to hear it run. These Buick GS Skylarks ruled the road back in the day, giving Mopar and Ford a run for their money.

Another great video Lou I always liked the Buick GSX always wondered which color was the most popular on those. My Uncle used to race in the 1960s and 1970s and he always told me that those 455 Cars were hard to keep up with.

@@brucebaron1212 the 70 chevelle 454 is a monster but it wasn't quite equal to the gsx 455 stage1. According to what I've found researching the 70 Buick gsx. Now the 70 454 chevelle was hard to beat and another dream car for sure.
