Jeff has come around in his 1970 Jag so I can have a closer look. Love that colour on a E-type! Brought to you by mitka.co.uk

A lovely Series II E Type! I have a PPY '69 OTS. Two comments: One: this car has been given new leather somewhere along its lifetime, and the headrests were removed! They add a nice touch of class to the seats' appearance and give good protection in a serious accident, with their inner steel bar reinforcement. Some people think that in removing them they are making the car "more like a Series I"...which is a bit silly, given that it detracts from originality and lowers the value. Two: the revised rear design with the new tail lamps below the wrap-around bumper were NOT dictated by American regulations--unlike the uncovered/protruding headlamps in the front. Sir William Lyons had never liked the split-bumper look of the Series I, with the indented licence plate. He also did not like that Malcolm Sayer had given the new car horizontally-positioned tail lamps developed by Lucas originally for his competitor, Rolls-Royce!. That new rear look of the Series II was undertaken by both Sir William and Malcolm Sayer as AN UPDATING of the design. They considered this necessary and desirable in that the E Type's original look had not changed since 1961...and in its most important market--America--cars in the '50s and '60s often saw total or big partial redesigns ON AN ANNUAL BASIS! Had Sir William wanted to, he could have kept that original split-bumper look right up to and including 1973. By 1974, though, American regulators were imposing 5 mph impact rear bumpers on everyone. Not everything that was changed on the Series II over the Series I was done to satisfy American safety bureaucrats, as seems to be widely believed in England nowadays.

Lovely car and very original. It is nice to see one that has been used, yet almost as new with all the trim still in place.

Nice to see the gentleman still enjoying his E-Type after 21 years. A lovely original Series 2. By the way the Series 1 had glass headlight covers not perspex.

Sorry to contradict you, old chap, but perspex it is. I had a '64 E Type prior to my current '69 OTS and they are indeed perspex--much lighter than glass. Perspex was developed as a much lighter, bulletproof alternative to glass in the late 1930s, for aircraft cockpits. I can't blame you for thinking that they were glass covers, because most people on line repeat that.

Thanks for correcting me. I did have a series 1 E-Type and I was sure they were glass.@@philipshilling8665

Tail lights taken from a Hillman hunter.

Cool! Did not know that

The Hillman Hunter tail lights are different and more rectangular. The Lotus Europa shared the E type tail lights.

@@Mitkawatch I have a Europa and always trying to find what parts come from where. That is the only reason I know where the lights are from.
