DANYMITE RESTORATION

Күн бұрын

This 1970 Tonka Snorkel Fire Truck Resurrection was a lot of work. It was in a pretty rough shape with missing and broken parts. The Big Red came alive again and is a beauty! Hope you enjoy this video and thank you for watching.

I’m a 53 year old retired US Army Master Sergeant as well as a child of the 1970’s. I had a Tonka Snorkel just like what you’ve restored. I’m impressed to say the least. Incredible craftsmanship!!!!

There are body fillers that are made for high temp coatings like powder coat.
@DANYMITERESTORATION

yes i know,but powder coat will stick to filler thats what i dont know,sometimes wont stick to primer.......with my powder coat system
@SilverHawkRestorations
@SilverHawkRestorations 3 жыл бұрын
@@DANYMITERESTORATION You can use high-temp JB Weld (contains metal flakes) in very thin coats and powder coat will stick to it fine. I tried some high-temp filler before and it was super toxic and had to be used in a very well ventilated area.

I remember having one of these when I was a kid. It had a fire hydrant you hooked up to the garden hose with those black suction hoses that went from the fire hydrant to the fire truck. It would actually squirt water out of the basket deluge gun.

I use Novus Plastic Polish. The kit has three bottles, a heavy polish and a fine polish and a spray for cleaning plastic displays. You don't need to use a lot. A tiny bit on a micro fiber towel. Rub until the polish disappears the polish with a clean towel. I use it on my diecast car models instead of wax now. Leaves an ultra slick surface on the paint and the "glass" and helps repel dust. BTW, shouldn't the free end of the hose plug into that hole in the white square on the right side? I assume there would be a water pump on the real truck

Hi Ben - thank you so much for sharing this - I will try this Novus Plastic Polish - I always have a hard time with plastic polishing. I believe that the hoses are in the right place from my research but I am not sure.

If you weren't going to use bondo, why did you choose not to use a primer with a wet sand to smooth out the metal? Unfortunately you can see the pitting. Unless that was the look you were going for.

good points - I did try to smooth those pittings as much as I could. Will consider this next time! Thank you for having a look.
