Never apologize for wind noise! Beautiful bike. I had a ‘71 650 Tiger with the single carb. Bought it in ‘78 for (I think) 800 bucks. Was sitting on a guy’s back patio. Hadn’t even bothered to cover it when he painted the ceiling. Had paint spatter all over it. I told the guy if he could get it to run I’d buy it. It hadn’t run in about a year. Kicked it once and it roared to life. It was a great machine. Sold it three years later. I have pictures of it somewhere after I painted it.

I’ve had nothing but problems with Boyer ignition systems. I changed the one in my Comando to a Tri-Spark unit and the one in my 69 BSA Firebird to a Pazon. Boyers are junk……but they’re still popular with UK riders…..why? Because they are still made in England and that’s the only reason I can surmise……British loyalty!

Thank you very much. You Video was very informative as I am having similar issues. Mine will run then cut off. It breaks up when I try to ride it.

Nice video, brilliant work & good patience, I have a 71 120R (OIF) but running like a bag of spanners at the minute. I think is the timing that's out.

If the volts were high it must be the zenor, charging a battery over 13.5 volts will kill it, I don't think the rectifier could be a fault as it only converts AC to DC. That's that side of the picture, the condensers being retained was where you solved the timing issues. I am 71 and have owned many English biked of this era, worked on them myself and love them, I still have a 70 Tiger.

thank you, yes looking back i believe you are right. rewiring the bike with the tympanium unit solved all of the issues. I retained the heat sink for looks of course! Shame of the situation is, it wiped out the top end when it got hot. I will be rebuilding the top end of the engine soon because of this. Smokes like a mosquito fogger LOL. Thank you for watching and for the info!!

@@jeremybishop9848 I once holed a piston on a triumph when I took the head off the head gasket was blown between the cylinders so it was sucking air. I grew up in Sydney (Aussie) I had a lot of mates who had pommy motorcycles and because I was mechanical they came to me with there problems, I learnt a lot but in the end I had to tell them I wasn't doing anymore. Just today I had to re-tension the head on my 70 BSA firebird, the rocker cover gasket was no good so will make one tomorrow, well to be honest my wife will make it if she refuses I will buy one, when you do the top end on your triumph if it does not need a bore job make sure yo deglase the cylinder...all the best...

Sounds nice. The new Amal's have tickler extenders so you don't get gas on your fingers. Or you can just put the extenders on the stock carbs.

Back in my day long time ago we would just put a Magneto on it to run the engine and put the lights in the charging system completely separate no matter what happened you got home

Racing with George rocket we had a North floor valve dual plug timing with the pain in in the ass we finally at the end of my racing time the last race I rode I was 62 years old we put electronic ignition in it and got rid of Prince of Darkness we use the total loss battery system to ride short six lap seven lap races that bike was fast not with me John John Long out of Miami Road this bike at Daytona for 11 years it always finished first and 750 cc Sportsman a bike was awesome I got to race it one time in Alabama the bike was way faster than I was I love Triumph

First things first,Is it running on 2 cylinders.....doesn't sound like it ,feel the header pipes to see.Use a separate battery when running the timing light! Hint:- Run ALL the Boyer earth wires to the battery, not the frame!.Boyers also run better using 6V coils.
@jeremybishop9848
@jeremybishop9848 2 жыл бұрын
it is good now. the rectifier and zener both went and blew the boyer out, im certain of it. it was running on one, then both, then the other one, then fouling plugs, timing too far advanced, then 1 minute later too far behind.... it was a mess. with the added grounds and new electrical parts it is fully sorted and running great now! thanks for watching!

I have been running the same Boyer for 41 years in my Bonneville. And yes, I;m running 6V Andrews coils. Thick fat blue spark. The boyer has two holes to static time. Common mistake is to use the wrong hole. And they are marked clearly which is for which direction it turns.

Change the ground from the headlight bucket down to the frame the headlight bucket is rubber mounted and it doesn't ground worth a damn through the headlight

Yes the grounds on this bike were a little lacking, good call!

If your wiring is crap the boyer will never run well.....lucas makes new harnesses...also behind the boyer ign where they use a cable tie the solder can crack and you will never get it to run right.....ask me how i know....but you've probably sold it by now
