Lived, worked, and studied in Manhattan during the 70s and 80s. Loved the City. Loved the grittiness and the pulse of the City. Mayor Koch injected hope and pride in the City.

Lived on 2nd Ave and 33rd for about a year ,as a teen 1975 roughly , went to Seward park high for a short time, then quit ...then blue collar life, now sitting in bed in China with the wife, what a strange life it's been.

Love grand central station. Commuted from westchester in the late 70s as my dad did before me. It’s a beautiful place.

Geez, I miss those days. Got a quick glimpse of Mamma Leone's, I used to love eating there with my parents. Hokey, but in a good way.

No gas sign, I was 13 in 1973 and remember long lines of cars waiting for gas, it was crazy, and I also remember how all of a sudden there was gas, I thought, what, all of a sudden they found a huge stash of gas, I knew right away there wasn't a shortage, it was big oil companies putting the squeeze on, to up prices and to show just how powerful they are, I remember electric cars idea, gov shot that down, solar panels, gov shot that down, gov, aka big oil changes, something's never change.

1970's NYC was pretty grim. I remember it well. But at least it was still reasonably affordable.

My grandmother lived in Hell's Kitchen (47th. St. between 8th and 9th Ave) from 1974 up until her death in 2004). It was a rent stabilized 3 bedroom apartment and the rent was $470 a month. I'm guessing they’re renting it now for $5K a month?

WAGON on the right as film begins/1971 or 72 CHEVELLE/MALIBU (?) seen halfway tru* Refering to comments as everybody sees in thier own way something good or bad in the VISUAL LOOK of the streets-- but going into 1975 when the city (alledgedly) went broke I prefer it that way as MY neighborhood became DEAD QUIET/PEACEFUL ALL DAY/NIGHT FOR YEARS as schools closed/street partys stopped as city sanitation was not available summer after summer to get after the usual mess left for sunup!/less real estate connivers to pump up all your neighbors that THIER house it worth more $$$$ than your house (thats how the realtors keep the hundred year old game going)/less bus,es running by so cleaner air/ I know this sounds mean but as soon as the more quiet/less foot traffic passing by your sidewalk a lot of neighbors and myself can finally start some REPAIR WORK ON OUR PROPERTYS/SIDEWALKS/ and other things* now with the current bounceback back in the EARLY 1990S (which is great once again for real estate/construction of city whatever needs to be done---WOW WHAT A CROWD PASSING BY/NEW BUILDINGS/NEW STORE OUTLETS/SCHOOLS REOPENED (all this from 1991 to now 2022--but I,M not talking of VIRUS slowdown but the bounce back of the 1990s era--the VIRUS is for another conversation* THANKS TO ALL COMMENTERS FOR THIER OPINIONS ALSO*******
