Still had the kick start in 71 I don't think they quit that until 74 or 75 ? Killer Bike!

The kickstarter was still available on the 2-arm swingarm models until at least 1983. However, the later BMWs could not be reliably started with it

Çocukluğumda kullandığım ve hiç unutamadığım rahmeti abimin motosikleti. İstanbul da emekli bir albaya satmıştı. Ne yazık ki ömürboyu sahip olamayacağım harika bir motosiklet.

Beautiful example. Just needs authentic mufflers (with VERY tapered ends )and rear shock covers.

I was 15 when my step-father bought one. I had a mini bike. I used to sneak it out, pick up my girlfriend, and we would ride all over on that thing. It was so quiet I could sneak it out easily. Was a great bike, could wheelie a bit if you power shifted into second gear. Had a bit of wriggle due to driveshaft and wonky forks. Tranny made a head turning clunk into first in close traffic. Fond memories. Yours has a click! Clack on left side….valve adjustment?

i KICK MYSELF FOR SEELLING MY 72 R75/5. I bought it in 74 in Los Vegas when I was stationed at Nellis AFB. Rode it for the next 20 years. over 100K miles never a problem. Ony did normal maintenance, oil, filters, valve adj. new tires every so often. Got to the point in my life that I wasn't riding it much and I let it go to aa guy that loved it and rode it. Wish I had it now that I'm retired and have time for those long cross county trips that the R75 /5 was so great a partner on...Mine had the shorter wheelbase than the later mdls so much fun zippin along the winding country/mountain roads of the western states.

I have one too... just got from a friend who passed away... So how do you turn the motor off? let me know... nice bike. I Race Honda's at Bonneville and and have Harley for years, but this BMW I cannot figure out!

Depends on the year. If it's a 1973 or earlier it should have a black knob on the top of the headlight, which is the key, ignition switch and light switch. Pushed it down (flush with the headlight bucket) to turn it on, twist it left or right to get lights, pull it up to turn the ignition off, and pull it all the way out to secure the bike. I think all BMWs from the 50s-1973 use the exact same key.
