Riding some local dirt roads on my 1971 Honda CL350 Scrambler. Accidentally turned my audio recorder off half way through the ride and nearly crashed while staring at scenery like a lemming :D

I bought a 1968 cl 350 in 1968. Absolutely terrific bike. After riding for an hour or so the motor ran down like it was running out of gas when there was still plenty of gas in the tank. After waiting a while the bike started again and ran fine for a while and then ran down again. Turned out it was due to a faulty gas tank cap. It was not letting air into the tank and creating a vacuum.

My buddy has a 1973 cl 350. After having the carbs rebuilt it doesnt go very far before the moto runs down and it dies. I'm gonna tell him to try getting a new gas cap. How cool would that be if this fixes it. This is why there is a comment section! Thanks for the tip.

In 1976 I had a used CL 350 scrambler. Went everywhere on that bike. Loved it. It would cruise on the highway and go down back roads and trails. When I say I rode it everywhere I mean it. I used to tune it and work on it myself, too. I'm looking for a bike with that size motor that will do over 100 mph, cruise at 70 on the highway, and also have the ability to go over rough terrain like that. It got good mileage and had a big enough tank to have some decent range. Haven't found a new bike that can do all that. The closest I've come so far is the Kawasaki Versys x300. The high revs on the Kawai makes me nervous and I don't care much for the look of naked bikes. Guess I'm an old fossil. Any suggestions for a bike that does all the above that they're making today would be appreciated. Thanks for the video.

By the way, that sounds more like vapor lock than a clutch problem.

Thinking of getting this as my first bike. Would you recommend?

Yes and no. It's a good size to start on but it's an old bike and there's constant fixing to be done on it. I'd look for something newer. I rarely ride this bike anymore because of the issues it has.

The clutch seems to be engaging fine, just maybe not /disengaging/ properly? Having said that it sounds a lot more like a fuel issue to me.

A fuel issue? Never thought of that. Could you give a little more detail?

Byoexile Unless you have a chaffed wire in the handlebars/headlight area, turning left either floods or starves the carbs? It acts like it runs out of fuel, or a chaffed / broken wire makes it cut out. Of course I’m not riding it but that’s what it sounds like. Nice bike. I’m currently running a 1972 CB350F but I want to sell it and get an SL? CL350 and improve it a tad for dual purpose uses. The 350F is purely a road bike. I have no interest in the nice, new, highly electronicized dual sports. I like the retro and ambiance of the 60s/70s bikes.

@@fishhuntadventure get a DR 650 before they're gone too. I have a '17 model. No computers, no sensors, no fuel injection. Perfect... Just enough new tech and old to have a blast on and run forever.

@@TrustyZ900 The DR650 is a really great bike! I've had mine since it was new in '05, and she's still running strong, never had a single issue with it. I ride it on street most of the time, but on vacation I ride it on mountain trails in Colorado and it does great.
