One hundred Girl Guides gather around a campfire for a good, old-fashioned singalong. The only trouble is that the campfire is indoors, in the Blue Peter studio...
If you're happy and you know it, just keep singing.
Originally broadcast 22 February, 1971.
Blue Peter is still going strong, with new editions of the show broadcast live on CBBC and BBC iPlayer every Friday at 5pm: www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode...
For details about how your child (or grandchild!) can earn a Blue Peter badge, visit the CBBC website: www.bbc.co.uk/cbbc/shows/blue...

Broadcast one day after my 6th birthday - wonderful to watch - thank you for posting. Just one other point if I may. John Noakes was an astounding role model and tv friend for millions of children in the 60's and 70's. I am not embarrassed to say this but when he passed away I broke down in tears. Something that I had never done before or have done since for anyone I didn't know personally. That's how much of an impact this man had on my life. Agree both asphyxiation and toxicity are hazards to assess - but both types of extinguisher are designed to be used indoors and it seems highly unlikely that the relatively short blasts used here could cause harm.... unless you know differently

Halon is now classed as extremely toxic and is no longer used except for a few very very specialised situations where there are no other safe options for remote extinguisher systems, ninety five percent of the time it is now replaced by other firefighting agents, roughly twenty seconds inhalation of/ or exposure to halon and you will need hospital treatment!!!!!!

That was hilarious. I remember once they had one of their appeals and the viewers were asked for help to raise funds for a poor girl who had to walk 10 miles each morning to get water for her family from the nearest river and then another 10 miles back again to her tent in which her family lived. I wrote in with a solution to her troubles and suggested that she and her family moved the tent to beside the river then the girl would not have to make a round trip of 20 miles every day. I didn’t get a reply.

I find this hilarious, its just all the quick edits while the singing gets faster as the fire starts to get bigger and the smoke starts to overtake everything. Was expecting them to set on fire and still be singing

This reminds me of the time I was in a rock covers band. We were playing in a pub and had been using a little dry ice for our smoke screen effect together with a couple of minor pyrotechnics. Right in the middle of Cowboys from Hell by Pantera, we noticed firemen behind the bar. Apparently our 'rock gods' effects has set of some alarms. They didn't stop us, we continued playing through the song and the rest of the gig. In another gig our singer's hair had some minor fire damage due to said pyros (he was aok, continued to end of gig). I guess the firemen would have stopped us then.

After seeing what happened at ‘The Station’, if I was ever at a bar/pub and I saw the band had even the hint of pyrotechnics, I’d be out of there before the first note.

John Noakes was an absolute diamond and for me at the age 7, when that was broadcast, was a real hero. But my toes curled when I heard what he said at the start of the clip. I know for sure it was absolutely 100% innocent, but can you imagine what the Daily Hate Mail would make of that today. They would want him arrested. RIP John, you lovely man.
@regkray

Well over 99% of people are genuine, kind people who would never harm a child, yet most people’s reaction these days to what John said would be the same as yours. Goes to show how paranoid and cynical our society has become. The innocence and honesty that used to be the foundation for social cohesion is never coming back.
@andyflack7940
@andyflack7940 Жыл бұрын
@@regkray you’re absolutely correct. I just know you can’t say those things these days without raising eyebrows. I think social cohesion is missing for more reasons than this. But I really do hope you’re wrong though and that social cohesion will eventually come back.
