This would be the last year the Packers were in the playoffs till 1982 and if you don't count that year because it was a work stoppage year it was the last year the Packers would make the playoffs till the Favre era.

Brockington and Lane. Great 1-2 RB punch.

At least for the seventies decade, 1972 brought back a small semblance of Packers success from the dynasty years of the 60s

The 1972 season was just the second of four winning seasons the team held between 1968-91. The Packers were (desperately) trying to make a complete break from the Lombardi era.

Played against Jerry Tagge in high school. Howard Cossell: "Tagge's passes go up like a wounded bird and come down like the Von Hindenberg." 😅

The front office, in those days, were abysmal at spotting talent; however, they hit home run drafts in 1971 and 1972. They moved up in the draft in 1971 by trading Don Horn to Denver and selecting John Brockington from tOSU who was the NFC Offensive Rookie of the Year. In 1972, they drafted Willie Buchanon out of San Diego State who was the 1972 Defensive Rookie of the Year. Being a die hard Packers fan from 1960 to present, that was a damn good defensive team and had a two headed monster in the backfield with Brockington and McArthur Lane. They needed the tandem as they had no passing game with Scott Hunter and Jerry Tagge. Why in the f*ck would you draft two option QBs from college. Both had rag arms. From 1971-1987, the Packers couldn't buy a QB after Bart Starr retired until they drafted Don Majkowski out of Virginia. Since 1987 (35 years), the Packers have had only three QBs (two will be in the HOF): Majkowski, Farve, and Rodgers. That's a hat trick that will never be repeated.

In 1999, Don Majkowski became the first Packers quarterback since Bart Starr in 1966 to make the Pro Bowl.

Both the Browns and Packers made the playoffs with both teams losing to their conference champs in the playoffs (Cleveland lost to Super Bowl champion and undefeated Miami, Green Bay losing to NFC Champ Washington)

@@xman777bmaybe the dog story is bs, but he wasn't jerry sandusky. Plus, he was a better coach than bart starr and forest gregg. Certainly better than lindy infante, and phil bengstrom

Dan Devine told an odd story to the players. He believed that he was the real inventor of the power sweep and that Vince Lombardi stole it from him. The 1972 Packers had these Lombardi era players left-Carroll Dale, Ken Bowman, Dave Robinson, Gale Gillingham and Ray Nitschke. Bart Starr retired as a player and was the quarterback coach.
