1972 Honda N600 - Small Simple Cool - It's NOT A MINI
In 1967 - Honda Sent 50 N600 to US for endurance testing. They were to all be crushed after driving for 20k miles however, 4 are still in existence today and we’ll include a link to the restoration of serial number 1 above. - • Small Car, Big Dreams:...
The N600 was introduced to the US in 1969 as a 1970 model. It was the first Honda to be Officially exported to the US. The N600 was the first Honda vehicles assembled outside of Japan with production in Taiwan
Its engine can rev to 9,000 rpm
Its capable of providing 36.3 miles per gallon economy
It has a top speed of 81 mph
It has a 0-60 time of 19 seconds and it weighs roughly 1100 lbs
It also has a plastic boot lid for weight savings
Thanks to Daymon for sharing his awesome 1972 Honda N600 with us!

I bought one new from Anderson's Honda in Pontiac Michigan in 1971 for 1455.00 out the door ! My first new car , it would do 83 mph flat out and had an auxillary pull rope starter under the hood ! I put 52,000 miles on it and the fenders rusted off it ! I loved that car !

In 1982, I bought a 1972 Honda 600 Coupe. Avocado green, a beautiful finish. It had repeated electrical issues, but it was the most fun of any car I have ever driven. Just like a go-kart, with even 45mph seeming like you are going a lot faster. A friend of mine called it "the lawnmower" because of its 2-cylinder engine.

Very cool car ! I remember when my Dad bought this car brand new in 1972 !! We used to fit the whole family of 6 in it! My mom and dad and little brother in my moms lap in the front and my 2 sisters and I in the back! We were all little kids then. People would always laugh when they saw all of us getting out of the car at the store etc. We had this car until 1992 here in Homestead, FL until Hurricane Andrew wiped out the town. Even after that it was still in the drive way with the windows all smashed . It was a great fun car ! Good memories!

I am portuguese and the N600 model was my first car in 1972. Always excelent. I sold it three years later with about 85,000 Km, when I decide to go to Brazil after the comunist movements arose in Portugal in 1975. As I couldn't take it with me I had to sell it but I was very sad because I loved it very much.!

Great find! My dad bought this car dirt cheap for my mom to learn how to drive, back in '75 or '76. He also had to rebuild the engine and paint it. For the engine pull he just threw a rope and pully over the rafters and for paint he used a brush, bright yellow no less. The next car my mom got was a Ford Pinto which I wouldn't call a step up. Those were the days.

This was also my first car in HS. Dad bought it used and original. We got it running well and I drove it all around Abilene, TX about 1975. I graduated in 1978, believe it was like a 1969 model. Went to my sister when I bought my car. Would go 60 mph with ease always got about 55 mpg. Fastest I ever had it was 75 mph, driving by myself about 5 feet behind a semi trucks back bumper draft. The dash and whole car shook like crazy 😂. Stupid highschool boy, but what memories.😊 Oh, in the HS parking lot the guys would put it up over the curb on the walkway. I could lift and push it by myself front side and then back side of the walkway and back into the parking lot. Gravel parking lot, the others would do donuts in the rear wheel cars. In second gear I could do a huge donut around all their cars. For a tight donut I'd use reverse, front wheel drive equals small donut. 😂

My dad rented one of these for a day so I could learn to use a clutch. I loved that goofy shifter. Dad thought it was klutzy. Off on a slight tangent - the owner mentioned that the fan belt makes a 90 degree turn, and he has never seen that before. I lived in England in the early 80's, and had a Peugeot 304 wagon with a fan belt that made a 90 degree turn. The engine was transverse, and the fan sat right behind the radiator where it would be on the front of a longitudinal engine. There were two extra pulleys to bend the belt.

My first car as a young man in Australia. Our country also got the "base" model N360. Don't take this as authoritative advice, but my Honda mechanic told me to take the fan belt off during the winter. An extra 1/2hp of so. I always imagined it made a difference! Great to see one driving around. Great to see a young man appreciating it and looking after it.

The n600 was my 1st car. Was in El Paso Tx, @1 mile up, so power was way down and HOT. It was 1973 and junior in high school, the car stood out. A few times found the N600 turned sideways. I'd just picked up the rear end and straightened it out. Funniest was when football players picked up back end and told me to gun it. I told them they didn't want me to do that but they insisted. Guess they needed a lesson about front wheel drive. Best was with the oil embargo going on, getting 4x to 5x the gas mileage of regular cars of those days was good.

I remember the Honda N600 sedans and Z600 coupes the Z600 intrigued me when I was shopping for my very first brand new car in 1972. I thought it was the coolest looking little car..it had the nickname of 'TV' or 'aquarium window' in deference to the appearance of the rear window with that thick surround frame around the rear window. Then the original 1973 Honda Civic hit the U.S. market with twice the engine displacement of the 600 series I read all the reviews in car magazines at the time, went for a test drive in one and that was that..my first brand new car. I still miss that little Honda Civic hatchback fast forward to now I recently purchased a used 2017 Honda Fit primarily because of it's great fuel mileage economy and amazing amount of interior room but also because it's the closest I can come in a modern car to that 1973 Civic I had. Still think those N600 and Z600's are cool though.

There are some ways I could believe he paid $2400 for this car, or even $4800. 1) the people who sold it were totally unaware of its value or 2) they just decided to honor an anonymous young man with a medium sized win of the lottery. In the USA, this car should sell for close to $20,000.

I would love to have one of these...I almost bought one when I lived in Ventura,CA, in 1983. But it needed more work than I was able to do even though I had my HONDA CB400SS apart and I know that I could have fixed the n600 easily. All that I could find wrong with the little car was that 3rd gear wasn't working and the engine/transmission case needed to be split open to get to the gear. I wish that I had one tthose little cars now.
