Imperial was the Chrysler Corporation's luxury automobile brand in the 1950s to the 1980s. What if the 1972 Imperial LeBaron was built today? What would a 2021 Imperial LeBaron look like? Let's find out.

Weirdly enough the mid 60s imperials (65-68) look better 2 door but the fuselage look better 4 door. The rounded shape changes things. Just my 2 cents.

I grew up in the back seats of Imperials. Mom had a 4-door 1964 Imperial Crown and Dad originally had a 1965 Imperial LeBaron, but he totaled it in 1968. Then he later bought a 1971 4-door Imperial LeBaron. We loved that car. My Grandma was so impressed with it, she even bought one for herself as well. I would love to see you do a re-design of the 1971 4-door LeBaron.

How many miles did you get out of it before it died, or was traded in? I heard a nicely and rigorously well-treated 440 could last about 200k on average, if not possibly longer!
@Tahoebronco

@@tonytalks9070 Dad's Imperial finally died at over 245,000 miles. And he didn't take care of it all that well. When I got into high school, and especially after I got my driver's license, I began doing the oil changes and few minor repairs & regular maintainance . But by then His died then Grandma wrecked the front end of her car, which only had 28,000 miles on it. We used Dad's a parts car for the front fenders and hood and other items so Grandma's car could be rebuilt. Sadly, shortly after getting it out the body shop, I got into an accident with it and it was totalled out.

You just turned a 72 Imperial into a modern 68 Plymouth fury, 1972 was the year I became a car nut and the Imperial was a one of a kind design, you took away the most unique parts. The turn signal and cornering lamps. Your talent is really good, but you really could have done a better job with this one.

I would love to see your thoughts and ideas on a new Cadillac CTS-V Sport Wagon and the Galpin / Fisker Rocket V8 Mustang. To me the Cadillac looks great (specifically the side and rear) but it just isn't quite modern or timeless and the front just isn't very pretty when compared to the newer CTS-V or even better the CT6-V. As for the Rocket V8 Mustang, I love the changes made to the rear compared to the Mustang that it is based on, and while the front looks good I just don't think it quite matches the rear.
@timlukasphoto
@timlukasphoto 4 жыл бұрын
I think it still looks pretty old. A light bar doesn't automatically make it modern. The rear tire wouldn't be covered these days and I think that the sides wouldn't be as curved as they are and would have some kind of graphical elements in it. The Thunderbird for example is a really good redesign of yours.

He states quite clearly what the objective is for most videos and he does what he sets out to do. Whenever he does a modernization of a car that means that his main focus will be on the headlights as they are quickly becoming more important than the grill and is typically the defining feature in modern car design.

I have a question. Okay so I've been designing and making my own cars heavily last year. My skill of designing cars has increased drastically compared to how I was at the beginning of 2019 to now. So, I decided to take cars that already exist and make a design of my own for them, but it wasn't like taking a car that's a 2019 with a design and changing some features on it to my liking. Instead, I made a completely brand new design for that vehicle as if it was an actual new design of it. To the point where you could look at it and say that vehicle is made by that specific company where it's actually not. Anyway, what I wanted to ask you was that when you're making a new design for a car to potentially sell to that company you designed it for, should you avoid having any type of badges or names on the car that is relevant to that company's title or should you leave them off to avoid any conflicts?

The only thing I would do differently would be to retain the vertical semi-eliptical turn signal/marker lamps of the original design. By changing these lamps to a three piece LED arrangement makes it look more like a Plymouth Fury. Those single piece marking lights help make it an Imperial.

In general, I think your changes were good. They're definitely better than the Ford Maverick/Dodge Dakota Pickup truck look that British designer Trevor Creed came up with for the return of the Dodge Charger in 2006. Creed's insulting vision had ZERO Dodge Charger DNA. Frankly, using a monkey, a bottle of scotch and an Etch-a-Sketch I could have designed a better looking 2006 Charger. While I prefer the '73 Imperial due to the horizontal lines of its grille I can appreciate some of your changes to the '72. The best feature that you came up with is the continuous accent line around the contours of the Imperial's body. I don't know if anyone else is doing that but I like it. I also like the larger tires and the grille redesign but I would make the horizontal line thinner and the triangular lights smaller...possibly in the same color as your full body accent line which I would make a bit thicker. Good luck and thanks.

The low trim line on the original adds a ponderous quality to it. I believe it was intentional. Part of the appeal of these cars (in their day) was their "seriousness". Captains of industry didn't have BMW 7s driven by the help. And without angry headlights, there was no other way to make a car serious or imposing. This re-design removes the most important elements that gave the car its imposing character, and then just made the car silly with that "Tron" lighting. I will ask you one more time: please take the time to understand the intention of the original design, and then have an actual plan that says something, not just a silly and irrelevant tweak.
