Born in the era when muscle cars ruled the roads, the 1972 Pontiac Trans AM stands out, even amongst its mighty peers. It arrived at a time when automotive designs were an intimate blend of power, speed, and style that was not only desired but celebrated. The Trans AM 455 H.O., with its emblematic "Screaming Chicken" decal that adorned its hood, made an indelible mark on the industry. There were roughly 30,000 Firebirds produced for MY72 of which just under 1300 were Trans Ams and only 458 4 speeds, making the car 1.5% of the total production.

I own the engine out of a 1972 T/A , my dad bought it back in 1973 , the neighbor that owned the car parted it out to make money for college. I sure would like to find the car it belongs to , it had a automatic transmission behind it. It still sports the 7f6 heads ,has trw L2394 pistons and a torker 1 intake and a general kinetics camshaft. It runs great , sounds like a B-29. The machine in this video is beautiful , only 1286 Trans Am's built in 1972 because of the UAW strike.

If I'm not mistaken, in '72, ALL close ratio, largest available cubic inch-powered GM's were M22 only.

I had a M-22 in a '71 Sport LeMans with a 400 motor. Because I couldn't(?) validate the true identity of the transmission, I sold the entire car for $300.00CAN. Did I mention it also had a 3.08 Posi rear ?I regret the sale to this day, but I had no money to fix the rusty primered, damaged front end car. So, that happened. Never heard that about M22 being a default transmission before.@@M21L35

I need a cigarette after this video....and I quit smoking almost 20 yrs ago......rarest TA next to the 69 TA....and a 4sp..455 HO bad as mambajamba...car looks spot on correct from what I see. I have a 73 TA Buccaneer red and a 79 TA Atlantis blue 4spd..both survivors.

My buddy had a 74 I always drove 4 speed 400 ,,my other buddy had a 79,,and a 74 which we got up to 150 m,p,h,,burned 2 litres of oil l,o,l,,,such fun. I also had a v 8 Vega with a corvette 283 funnest car ever,,,beat ton of chevells with the same motor,,,

@@oliviahockett Yeah. white to me is kinda boring. Like 75% of the cars sold the past 10 years. White, black, or multiple shades of grey or silver, is what most of the companies are pushing these days. Give me one of the 3 primary colors any day.
