Those are the types of cars that you don't need a thumping stereo. You could listen to that purr all day and be content.

I found a 1971 when I was young (69 now) and it looked like hell, guy wanted $1600 for it. Rust, peeling top, etc. I opened the hood and it has a 402, aluminum high rise, massive Holley carb, Headers and cool valve covers. Ran like a scalded cat. A Turbo Thunderbird tried to give me a run, left him in the dust and smoke. My kids called it "Daddy's Hot Ride" LOL. It would run 137 flat out, but every time I made a run, I had to add a quart of oil as the rear main seal was crap. I miss that old POS.

I read something about roots type blowers heating up after extended high rpm sessions. Supposedly the blower can heat up the intake manifold to the point where it actually reduces power on top of whatever the belt eats. Have you ever noticed this?
@jameskielland5018

I've not noticed it. However, it's worth considering: These old 71 series superchargers were first designed for diesel truck engines. The practice of putting them on hot rods came from finding the blowers in junk yards. So they likely weren't originally designed to run at high RPMs. Diesel truck engines aren't known for high RPMs. As to extended RPM sessions, this form of supercharging first became popular with drag racing. Which by its nature is short duration. You don't see these blowers used in circle track or road racing. Heat is a problem with all forms of forced induction. Probably more so with a 71 series supercharger as most don't have room for any kind of intercooler.

Nope. Not gonna happen. Yes, there is some diminished returns due to heat soak, but the air is not in the intake plenum long enough to significantly reduce density. Keep in mind that the air charge is cooled on entering the blower, by the evaporation of fuel. Power boaters have been known to run them on the firewall for an hour, and not all of them have intercoolers. Intercoolers are a power adder, not a recovery.

@@guerrillaradio9953We had a 482 with a 6-71 on it in our v-drive boat when I was a kid. We could cruise around the lake at about 1700RPM all day long. Dad used to say we got better mileage out of it than the small block I/Os as long as we stayed out of the secondaries. When you stab it, though, you didn’t have time to think about mileage.
