This is the dealer demonstration film which would have been available at a Chrysler Plymouth Imperial Dealer for 1973. This was the last year of the C body Fuselage styling of Chrysler Products

My Dad had a 2 door 73 Newport burnt orange with a white vinyl top. It had the Navajo interior. Very nice ride. It was mid 1980's.

My dad took a 1972 New Yorker from Los Angeles to Vegas. He said it was the most comfortable trip, ever! He said the air conditioning was also super in the 115 degree heat.

Thanks for the post, I enjoyed that. Chrysler Corporation (as it was known by back then) always prided themselves on engineering firsts. In the age of look alike clone cars that are made by companies that we don't really know who owns or where they are made, the lines get a bit blurry. It was very refreshing to watch how an independent and proud car maker could show real engineering progress combined with attractive styling. Thanks for the reminder :)

Thanks for posting. I had a white New Yorker Brougham coupe with white leather interior, vinyl top and moonroof. A true white whale!

An interesting note. The 1971 to 1973 Imperial was available with a Bendix 4-wheel anti-skid braking system!

I remember like it was yesterday a Chrysler like this one suddenly turn left on interstate and travel over median across the oncoming road and up to some trees. I stopped at next exit to tell them what I witnessed, we had no cell phones then. I have occasionally wondered if everyone were okay. I was heading back to the Hoosier state from Florida. This incident happened in Georgia. Oh, I still have the car I was driving way back then. Thanks for sharing!

I love these old Chrysler cars! My dad was a devout Mopar man, and swore by their cars. My first car was a 1973 Dodge Polara Custom Wagon with a 440 4bbl. Wish I had never sold it, as it was a 2 owner car, arrow straight, ( it was only 13 years old at the time when I got it ) with 56k on the clock. Sold it to get a 340 Duster. Looking for vids about those 73 Polara's brought me here. Anybody else ever get the 73 Newports and the 71-76 Impala/Caprice confused as a little kid? I did...the front ends were very similar. Cool video!

These beautiful full size cars were true land yachts, up to around 19 feet 8 inches in length by 1973 Imperial Le Baron sedan and Coupe. I just wish Chrysler would start making cars more like this today in 2021.

Of any of the car companies out there, at Least Chrysler still sells a large unit body rear wheel drive V8 sedan, the 300, I can't think of any other car company that offers something like this that is affordable.

Had one. New Yorker. With 440. What a boat. Loved it but the same old story on all of these. Voltage regulator, starter, alternators. All common issues. Vapor lock was an issue on the 383 not the 440. Trunk space of todays Tacoma's. Great car

I owned a '72 New Yorker, from 1977 through 1982, with the 440 4-barrel.. was one of the grandest and most well-built cars (and certainly one of the fastest) I've ever owned since! LOVED that car!

Enough trunk space for a whole family to hide in at the drive inn.

My parents bought a 1973 New Yorker fully loaded all option showroom model. They got it in March of 1974. It was unsold due to oil shock. They got it for 40% off sticker.

You can tell by the rear end styling on the Newport, they were putting it directly against the Oldsmobile Delta 88.
@OsbornTramain Жыл бұрын
I don't know about that......look at at 1974 Plymouth Fury, four door or two door hardtop, you really see Oldsmobile in that car. The same year Dodge, you really see Buick. The 73 Chrysler was pretty much a one year only style for the front and a two year only style for the tail lamps which really weren't that prominant to the car.

interestingly, Town & Country wagons were left out of this promo - its 5th year as a separate series in the Chrysler lineup.

Chrysler's aren't traditional "land Yachts". Unlike a Buick Electra or Oldsmobile 98 or Mercury Marquis, Chrysler's handle well and rid firm, more like a Mercedes or BMW sedan. Their suspension systems were designed to be road cars. That's why you see Police cars that were Chrysler, Dodge or Plymouth predominantly thru the 60's and 70's. They don't float....they perform very well.

By definition, can a Newport ever be more 'understated' than a Monaco or Fury?
@walterweddle76444 жыл бұрын
I read where the 1965 Monoco was made that year with more options to compete with the Pontiac Grand Prix.

Thanks for the upload, it's a nice trip back to the day. My mother had a 1973 New Yorker that I took to my prom. Just out of curiosity, that ®️means you've officially registered this work with the national trademark office. Doesn't seem worth the expense.
@OsbornTramain3 жыл бұрын
The registered Trademark is the reference to my name, OsbornTramain. You can do a search in the Trademark Register on line and find it fast. It's specific to the category, Iconic commercials shown on Social Media, there's a real category for this. My trademark is Serial No.: 87-401,137 The idea or concept of a trademark isn't the same as a copyright. I don't have to do a copyright on every upload, partly because it's mostly public domain or I have real legal permission to use it. This channel has grown over the 14 years and I like to protect my name and work. So the trademark is related to my name and my channel.....it's only a couple thousand dollars with a Lawyer to file for a Trademark, I did that in 2017. To get a trademark granted, you have to be able to show that as an intangible asset, it generates revenue. So my Brand is well worth the money spent to protect it. The expense is trivial to the revenue it generates in perpetuity. Adsense is like a annuity, it's keeps paying as people keep watching.

@@OsbornTramain Sorry, I didn't mean to sound like I was challenging it nor did I need any specific proof at all. My apologies. It was more wondering if maybe I had not done enough to protect my own work. I've registered my work product before using Legal Zoom but it was for original work, not public domain content. However it ended up I had to sign away that right to get the Travel Channel to produce my film. It was just general curiosity how your name could be misused to benefit someone else.

I've always wondered what the point of these in-dealership filmstrips was. Were they played for a customer while the salesman went to find a specific car on the lot for a test drive?
@OsbornTramain3 жыл бұрын
They were played at the 9 am sales meeting for all the salesmen at the same time on a regular basis, so that they new the cars. I remember once a very angry General Manager lecturing one of our Salespeople because he didn't understand the transmission improvements on the 1980 Dodge Aspen. They did play them for customers who were on the fence but not very often.

Chrysler stylists and the 1973 front end: -- Geez we've been reworking this thing for 4 years now, what the heck are we going to do this time? Just take a straight edge and saw the whole thing off -- But it'll look like it smashed into a wall Yeah, well, it's different, right?
@OsbornTramain3 жыл бұрын
It was a transition styling year to get people ready for the 1974 front end which was going to be very different than the fuselage styling of 69 to 73. The 73 Front end is a very nice transition from the 72 to the 74, you can see styling continuity. The Engineers did their job very well
