I love the car - all the original features - steel wheels, correct steering wheel, webasto roof - and the2+2 is actually not only the most practical but the most stylish.

Thank you, very kind! It even came with a tapedeck & dictaphone (!) but I never managed to get those working. I’ve been very careful not to alter the car in a way that can’t easily be put ‘right’ - such as the exhaust.

What a beautiful example. My father had a '73 that was silver with navy blue interior. As a kid I absolutely loved that car. I was supposed to be able to drive it but it was sold in 1985 two years short of my 16th birthday.

Silver with navy blue - that’s a colour combination I haven’t seen on a SIII E-Type, but it sound lovely. There’s a second video on the E-Type on the channel if you’re interested. Glad you enjoyed this one!

What a gorgeous car. This would be one of my favorites since i was a kid. The closest thing of me coming close to owning this was a model car i was given by my father when i was a kid. Still have it till this day on my shelf and that was over 30 years ago hahahaha. Great video and what a beautiful location. 🙂👌

Thanks for the feedback. I’ve also made videos of my 911 and my Merc 320SL, if you’re interested. Enjoy the model car, particularly if it’s from your dad.

I can't get over the sound of that engine, you've done a great job with the resonators. What a beautiful example of the E-type!

Thank you! The straight pipes were a bit too much, but the after-market resonators did the trick! Mind you, the headers helped too.

Thanks not only for furthering my eduction on the E Type Jags, and your's in particular, but also as you explained the various upgrades you installed. Very, very nice. My Dad had a red 1958 MGA on which I learned, and like your Jag, had a four speed gear box. I dare say your dar was much better designed! I much ask you as you were "bombing down the very narrow Swiss road" near the Ean of this vide, were you driving on a "One Way Road?" I ask because man, if another vehicle car or truck, had been coming in the opposite direction, how would you have (1) slowed in time, and (2) how could you have each passes one another??!! Yikes!!! Thanks so much and "Cheers to you," Ted Schempp, Nashville, TN

Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed the video. There are actually very few one-way roads in Switzerland, but quite a lot of narrow lanes with passing places every now and again (sometimes you have to stop and reverse back to a wider section). It’s like that in England a lot too, so we’re used to it. I see you watched the “driving review” video on the E-Type - there’s also an “owner’s review” video on the E-Type if you’re interested. Not to mention other videos on my other cars on the channel - enjoy.

Stunning roads and a lovely example of an S3 E Type - congratulations! I have a '67 S1 4.2 and am planning to drive London to Venice in October this year. I will be taking in Switzerland en route so I wonder if you could give me some pointers on good Swiss road routes? Thanks!

Thanks, much appreciated. There’s also an ‘owners review’ video on the E-Type, if you’re interested. If you’re heading to Venice via Geneva, then go Besançon, Pontarlier, Lausanne and over the Grand St Bernard pass to Aosta (Chamonix - Courmayeur goes through a long, expensive tunnel). If you’re going Basel, Lucerne then Lugano & Como are fab but perhaps less so in Oct so I’d suggest Davos, Stelvio and Lago di Garda. Check the weather forecasts beforehand & think about all-weather tyres. Enjoy.

Lovely car and well made video - I would have to stick with stock exhaust, but that is just down to individual preference, look after it but use it and make lots of memories 👍
@swissroadtrip
@swissroadtrip 10 ай бұрын
Thanks for your comment, pleased you liked the video. I ran with the stock exhaust for many years, but it was so quiet that you couldn’t barely hear the engine at idle so I had stainless headers fitted (the cast iron manifolds were pretty ugly, it has to be said). The car sits low to the ground at stock ride height and the (massive) back-box resonator got caught on a drive in France and ripped the exhaust off. At that point, I’d had enough and had the aftermarket resonators fitted which sound great and really let the V12 breath. At the end of the day, it’s a modification that can be easily changed back to stock so I don’t regret it at all. Sometimes when you own a car for 14 years it’s nice to experiment a little and make the odd change.

It's still an absolutely gorgeous car, but i've always been surprised just how 'different' the 'Series 3' looked compared to the 'original' one, with the 'open headlights' instead of the 'flow bubble', the bigger blinkers and tall lights, but above all, how different it looks in the shape of a coupe compared to the convertible. It's like an entirely different car. again, still beautiful, elegant and magnificent, but so 'odd' to see something essentially the same look so different. the only car i can think of that had similar 'effects' was the BMW Z4. The First BMW Z4 convertible, compared to the 2nd gen Z4 (not the newest 'supra' one), and then particularly similar the cabrio vs coupe version.

At 6’4” tall I only fit in the 5cm extended wheel base SIII, so that was always the only one for me. Also fancied having a V12 and I prefer the 70’s flared fenders to the SI and SII. The larger grill opening is a bit ungainly perhaps but the V12 radiator needs it. The Webasto full-length sunroof also looks good (to me) either open or closed. There’s another E-Type video on my channel if you’re interested.

How did you fix the overheating issue?
@swissroadtrip
@swissroadtrip 4 ай бұрын
The engine temperature was never an issue, it’s more the heat coming from the engine & transmission that makes the cockpit hot. No A/C, so we insulated the transmission tunnel & open the windows.
