In this episode, I started having problems with my CB500 again. The bike would run good for a while and then randomly it would start running on two cylinders and have almost no power. I thought that this problem was being caused by some leftover crap in the gas tank so I cleaned it out real good with some gas rinses and cleaned out the petcock and sediment bowl as well. Then, I cracked into the carburetors again because the bike was running way too rich. I put the stock throttle needles back in with the clip in the middle position because the eBay ones that were in there sucked. Then, I swapped out the pilot jets from 42 to the stock size 40 to try and fix a rich condition at idle. As you will see, this rich condition was not due to the pilot jet, it was due to incorrect float heights in the carbs, so I fixed that, put the 42 pilot jets back in and synchronized the carburetors. In the process of trying to make the bike run as good as it could, I put in new sparkplugs, rechecked timing, valve clearances and rebuilt the spark advancer. After all this, the bike ran much better but still had a hanging idle. I thought the hanging idle was due to a vacuum leak, so I replaced a ton of gaskets and seals but the problem persisted. The only way I could get the hanging idle to go away was to open up the air screws to 2.5 turns out. Weird right?
