Family home movie footage from the summer of 1973, here in Southern Ontario, Canada. My late big brothers and me travel from the town of my birth, Oakville, to Clarkson in the Town of Mississauga, formerly of Toronto Township.

WHERE ARE ALL THE PORSCHES? That's what I'd be asking because, well you see, I was almost born in a Porsche Carrera Speedster that my father wrench turned on in Oakville for race driver, Klaus Bartels. It may have been one of the first Porsches in Canada actually. But during the sixties as a big fan of the marque, I often wondered why I rarely saw a Porsche on the roads around the GTA. Today they seem to be EVERYWHERE! 911s, 718s, Panameras, Taycans, Cayennes, Macans... and no, I do not own a single one but it's so cool to see so many around! P.S. I may soon have a new YouYube channel dedicated to my Porsche archive. Thanks for viewing!

Had no idea that those big apartment buildings near Trafalgar and QEW in Oakville were there way back in 1973! They must have been basically brand-new back around then.

Remember knowing somebody in one of them around 1970, so I'd guess that they were fairly new as you say.

I was 10 yrs old during this film. I would have been playing at the Arcade in the old Oak Queen mall, on the right, just before Trafalgar Rd. exit.

Great memories! I remember the Queen Elizabeth Motel back in the sixties was near there.

Thanks for your comment. This morning I was speaking with my MPP who grew up in P.C. and we talked about Mississauga in the 1970s.

Great video! So many fond memories of old Clarkson/Oakville. The car appears to be 67-68 Cougar (I think).

Right decade wrong car I stand corrected. It was the hood scoop. That kind of threw me a bit! I remember cruising this area in my 1964 Thunderbird. By 1973 I was living in Peterborough although I did return to the area in 1977 great memories thanks for the ride.

My question is : what are the big building at Clarkson/Oakville at the mouth or rather the entrance from Avonhead? It bothers me as I recently discovered this area ? the complex is dusty looking sometimes the smoke from the chimney...Asked many people and could not get the answer. I live in Toronto ,Sir. RSVP. Thanks for you archival material!

When I was a kid that was St. Lawrence Cement, near the Petro Canada refinery. Heavy industry for that part of 'Toronto Township' in the early days which continues today, albeit under different names. Where Lakeside Park sits today was once a pipe factory and the broken terracotta remnants remain along the shoreline. Thanks for your comment, hope that helps answer your query.

@@OakvilleLad Oh, yes! Thank you Sir. I enjoy discovering Oakville as an oasis and love the short trips there by the Transit. One more question : between Burlington and Hamilton remember seeing in 1981 the beautiful iron gates and the gardens ...what is the name so I would research it? Thank you for enlightening information. Now I know. The cement factory looks so dystopian and I love it. Cheers from High Park!
