I think the best part about owning an old truck is you get some time behind the key not then the wheel🤣 but I would most definitely drive it anywhere

man i miss having my 74 with a 390. I traded it when gas prices were going up in 04 / 05 when gas was 1.70 a gallon midwest and could not afford to drive. want another one now that its 22 and gas prices are 4-5 dollars a gallon.

Sounds like some vapor lock and choke issues…. I always stuck a screwdriver in the carb to hold open the choke 😂😂

Holy cow that was a crazy cold start session. When it's that cold, those 70's Ford pickups needs a whole lotta pumping. And I could certainly here you pounding away on that gas pedal for sure. They are very cranky at that temperature no doubt. This video would have been even better with the camera on the other side. Do you think maybe perhaps you could make another one but film from the other side with the door open to show off your cold starting procedure? Thanks for sharing this awesome video of this beautiful classic truck!

That carb is running WAY too rich! Look at the black smoke from the tailpipe when it is revved. If you want it to stay running, bring it to around 2500-3000 RPM for around five minutes to heat up the intake manifold!

Seems like you need a carb tune up or rebuild maybe even a new carb I had that issue next thing carb went out completely threw a new one on and starts right up no hesitation in below freezing close to 0. Nice truck though.

i pour fuel down the carburettor first just to make it easier on your starter ,or even unplug the coil lead and crank the engine for a bit to bring oil pressure up, it'll be hot af trying to start for so long like that, and the battery terminals as well, increase idle screw adjust ment for the start then when it's warm drop it back, you don't want to stall at the wrong time , very dangerous, sounds awesome though, kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q9Cnps2bv8e3fo0.html heres my 351 c with a 400 cam

It's a normal cold start. You just have to keep starting it up to where it runs better and doesn't misfire. When it's starting to warm up, just hold the throttle down a bit until it warms up fully and let off the gas and it'll stay running unless there are other problems with it.

Man, fix the choke. It ought to fire right up and stay running decent.

Would it help to run hotter plugs?
@madd4455
@madd4455 10 ай бұрын
Even with hotter plugs, it wouldn't help. If it had a working choke and a better carb or a carb rebuild, it would start right up no problem. During the arctic blast early this year, I started my 79 F100 and it fired right up. It has a 400 "tall block" V8 with an Edelbrock Performer 600cfm carb with a working electric choke and I know I'm gonna get hate for using an electric choke but it helps a lot. Now, you CAN however convert the electric choke to manual and it's a better option but work with what you got, am I right?It's all about what you have on top of the engine and properly adjusting the fuel/air mixture, idle screw adjustment and the choke adjustment. You don't want your idle too high or too low. Right in the neighborhood of 800rpm is good for colder weather. If you set everything right, you won't have any issues unless you have another problem like really bad vacuum leaks, a stuck or burnt valve or timing issues etc. I'm just glad the fuel pump is a super easy replacement on my 400 if need be lol
