@ginoongkamote yes that was. an exciting series that went 7 games. i was a huge KNICK fan of the 1970's . the KNICKS led 3-1 in the series & the CELTICS came back & tied it. the KNICKS won game 7 in Boston & beat the LAKERS for the championship. it was an exciting series all the way. i just miss those years. enjoy. ****

That's some sad stuff to throw a paper wad out at Jo Jo as he set up alone for his free throws. The Celtics were hard to dislike when they ran vets like Havlicek, White and Nelson out there, to go with Cowens.
@manny4552
@manny4552 Жыл бұрын
Yeah Nelson was an interesting player too . He never looked like an athlete. But he was so damn smart a Wiley veteran with a high basketball I q... No wonder he became a great head coach.. Good shooter and decent rebounder... I don't care what era it is I'd have him try out for any team I coached

Yes, its a myth that the NBA is more popular now in and was dead in the 70s. There is a bigger television and national audience- and a lot more casual fans- but in the cities themselves, in the arenas, they were full and the fans were excited. Its all perspective- you can't be any more excited than these fans were in Buffalo for the playoffs- the fans in the arenas now with all the extra entertainment (to keep them excited?) aren't any more enthusiastic now than they were then. There's just a larger national audience now.

@@manny4552 Well in all actuality, the dropoff in attendance began after the merger when McAdoo and many of the players from this playoff team were traded away. The 77 and 78 seasons did not have good attendance but ownership should have given it more of a chance. Buffalo proved that if you put a competitive team on the floor the fans would support it. But they would not brave the snow and cold for a mediocre club.

Comments: 1. Ramsay was awesome in his dispute of the last-second foul call on McAdoo. 2. "In this situation muscles tighten and the ball becomes as heavy as a lead weight." Johnny Most was exaggerating and awesome in his pre-hacking-cough tones.

Yes, -1 of the many differences between then and now, not the least of which was they also actually played defense and set plays instead of standing around 3point land -tho easy to get layups now if want , nobody in the paint anymore like the dominant centers of the 70s

The Bucks were just as good in 1974. Even with old man Robertson, Kareem was far better than Cowens. The series went to 7 games. Boston just had better depth.

Uh, Dave Cowens dominated Kareem in Game 7 with 28 points and 14 rebounds. Jabbar had a very subpar game and ran out of gas. Cowens ran him into the ground, shot over him, drove around him and outplayed him completely.
@wilsonstone935
@wilsonstone935 3 жыл бұрын
They also changed their strategy on jabber for game 7, double teaming him making it harder to get him the ball, worked great 1st half and frustrating for the bucks, I think it was cousys idea and heinsohn asked Havlicek, their leading scorer, to play decoy for most of game, brave strategies but worked
