Had the same bike, 1974, same color. Turn signal alert must be a Euro mandate, I reckon.

looks great! why does it beep when you put the turn signals on?

To alert you that your turn signal is on. You can get in really dangerous situations when you have your blinkers on, other drivers think you will take a turn while you proceed your way, that will result in a crash.
