1975 Honda CB550F front caliper issues

My CB550F had been sitting for awhile-so the front caliper froze up.
This video shows the basics, which is all I know. You'll hear me calling parts by their wrong names and probably using unconventional means to get things done. The fun part of it all is getting to know the bike, and actually fixing things here and there.

Thanks man. Showing those details helped me understand the front brakes. Now to see if that helps me with my sticking front wheel.

Great job, wish mine had been that easy my piston was stuck real good. Now she works like a champ.

I've seen some videos where the piston actually had to be removed with compressed air. Luckily, this one came out without a hitch. Although, after my ride, I did hear a little bit of "grinding" from the brake when I wheeled the bike into the garage. I need to watch some videos on adjusting the brake-. Cheers!

Another great video by the piano guy! If music ever fails you a bike mechanic or movie director may work. I pull the caliper up and around the front fork so I can bring the whole assembly up above the fender. Easier to work on. Great job! Beautiful bike. rpm

You are too kind my friend! Took her out for an extended ride yesterday....note to self, never listen to anyone who tells you your fairing looks stupid and you should take it off the bike. It really makes a difference at highway speeds, just sayin...:) Cheers!

Very helpful. My piston was so rusted and stuck a friend had to take the entire caliper back to his shop. He said to get it out he had to weld another bar to it to yank it out. Bike I am restoring (78 cb550k4) last ran in 2013/14, sat in shed for 2 years and outside under a tarp for a few years. That has been the biggest challenge. Rust. I decided to replace everything - Master Cylinder, lines, piston, bleeder screw, shoes and had caliper blasted clean.

I just added a clear windshield to my bike. what a HUGE difference in enjoying your ride. With the windshield I can hear the sweet home of the motor Mufflers. Without it it's just a mess of wind.

I had to buy a brand new one. my brake caliper was missing. I guess someone took it off to see what was wrong and it disappeared. this is good to know old or new. it may eventually do the same.

You could fill those pits on the piston with jb weld and sand back down to smooth.

fyi, brake shoes are used in drum brakes, pads are on disk.
