I have restored around twenty cb500 or 550s. Or, so I thought. Turns out I was merely fixing them. Hats off, Sir. Hats off.

That's what it's supposed to sound like, the only thing better is a megaphone with no baffle. Great restoration. Schweeet!

I have an original -74 Metallic Maroon with only 8600 miles. Everything is un-restored. I love riding it. Just a touch under the cb750 performance with easier handling capabilities due to the lighter weight and lower center of gravity. Great bikes!

I love the maroon color on these bikes. With only 8,600 miles, there are still plenty of years of fun left in that 550!

I had that exact bike in the same condition. Bought it used in 1985 right after graduating HS. Wish I would have kept it.

Looks amazing, really good job, the 4 into 1 would not be my favourite but it sounds great
@rankoutsider1003 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I would have preferred 4 into 4 as I wanted to get as close to stock as possible. But buying a good set of originals was out of my budget range.

Where’d you get the 4-1? My buddy just picked one up we’re restoring it, one of the mufflers is shot

Nice job Chuck!! I've got a few in the collection here from the 1970's including the 1975 CB550 F also in orange. Such fun bikes aren't they? Cheers! Zip~
@rankoutsider1004 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Zip! The 70's Honda Fours are fantastic bikes. Fun to drive, easy to work on and even easier to look at.

Sir, you are one talented guy and very patient too. Thanks for sharing! I am looking at a 1973 500Four to restore. Are parts easily accessible?
@rankoutsider1002 жыл бұрын
Thanks! The parts I needed weren't difficult to find. I needed to buy a few aftermarket parts and Honda still supplies the more common ones such as carburetor rebuild kits, fork seals, etc. Finding parts for the 500 might be a bit more challenging due to fewer being made. Good luck!

How did you polish the wheels and all the chrome.
@rankoutsider1005 жыл бұрын
I soaked chrome parts in Evaporust and then polished them with Autosol. I had a NOS rear rim that came with the bike.
@MechaNick032 жыл бұрын
It must have been days of work behind the polish wheel
@rankoutsider1002 жыл бұрын
I had a new rear rim so that one was less work. Much of the time for the front wheel was soaking it to remove the rust, but it still took many hours of work to finish! :)
@MechaNick032 жыл бұрын
@@rankoutsider100 can you tell me what you use?
@rankoutsider1002 жыл бұрын
@@MechaNick03 I soak rusty chrome and steel parts in a product called EvapoRust until the rust is gone. Then I polish with Autosol. For aluminum, I sand with 220, 400, 800, 1000, 1200 and 1500 grit paper, then buff with a buffing wheel, then polish with Autosol.
