I don't care what anyone says...I LOVE the door panels and that blue shag carpet! Too bad its not for sale! The 70s was the best decade of my life and that really brings back memories! Listen to Sammy Johns song "Chevy Van" from the mid 70s...it will get you in the mood while you're working on her :)

Awesome video... Glad you kept this video up even though you sold it... You documented great history...excellent narrating. The late 70's Xplorer vans are scarce, almost impossible to find these days.

Nice van, I love the old dodges. I had trouble with my door, but all it required was a hinge adjustment. The bolts are fun to get to, they are behind the interior vent door. I found out not to drop tools down the vent because it took me almost an hour to fish out my ratchet and socket.... fun times.

Hello, Looks like a Fine Ride. If you ever decide to pass it on to someone else,I would be an interested Buyer. I admire the 78-80 years as they usually reflectthe original integrity of the improved Xplorers after the previous years. Here inHouston, they are few and far between, have seen only 3 in 10 years. Still lookingfor one even today. Regards, Michael

I wished my Class B RV was that height, i would love to be able to park it in the garage. But mine is about 9' tall so i cannot, plus the wind blows it around like crazy. Best to paint the blue stripe white and get rid of it. Check out Explorer Steve"s youtube channel and look at the before and after of his Explorer. Looks INCREDIBLE once he got rid of those stupid stripes.

I am looking at one that another guy has for sale and I am curious, under the hood of your 78, was it still smog exempt at that point or does it have all the extra vacuum junk and smog pump? I seem to remember RVs of that era still had relatively simple 1960s style engine compartments due to smog exemptions on larger trucks.

NO POLLUTION ANYTHING, installed dual exhaust. Never any work to engine tranny or rearend 400,000 miles on it when my brother sold it.

++++ NEED SOME HELP PLEASE++++ MY OIL SLEEVE CAME OUT WHEN I PULLED MY DIPSTICK OUT TO CHECK MY OIL.. CAN YOU LOOK ON YOUR ENGINE TO SEE WHAT THE OIL DIPSTICK SLEEVE BRACKET ATTACHES TO ON YOURS? IS IT THE ALTINATOR AND IF SO, IS IT THE BACK OR FRONT OF THE ALTINATOR IT ATTACHES TO??? YOUR HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.. THANKS!!
@MrElf319 жыл бұрын
Red 1 If I remember mine back in '82 the dipstick is just pressed into the engine block so if yours came out you just take a pair of needle nose pliers and press them inside to expand it just barely then tap that tube back in with a board on top of-course. now some had a holder spot welded to the side and that will (if it has one) bolt to the exhaust manifold bolt that has a threaded end beyond the head.

Simon Lagree This is the video tour I made when I had the van on the market. It was sold to a young guy in ND who wanted to fix it up. I always wanted to do the same, but couldn't get to it so I thought I would pass the baton to another, after much internal debate. I fixed it up to this point over a five year period, namely mechanical as it sat for a number of years in my grandpa's yard. The looks I got, driving down the road, were of admiration or utter disgust. I was flattered by both. Truthfully, I was surprised no one in my extended family wanted to take this on. We all took trips with grandpa in this van.

@MattsRageFitGarage12 жыл бұрын
That's not a 1978, if it was a 1978 the back tail lights would be the bigger and wider vertical tail lights and not the small horizontal lights. Also the dash and instrument cluster would be the newer style dash like you'd see in the 1978-1995 vans. Yours looks to be a 1976 or 1977, looks good though.
@kymesmith6 жыл бұрын
1986FordF-250 It's not a '77. I have a '77 Xplorer 307 and she's very different inside and out. I'm only the 3rd owner and she (Arlene) only has 44k miles! In addition to being in amazing condition with crazy low mileage, she's apparently also extremely rare - I have scoured the internet looking for others (to get remodel ideas) and have only been able to find ONE in an old "for sale" post!!!

own 9 dodge vans (72 to78 and one 90)... in 78 they mixed a lot of them up doing the .. conversion to the 78-79. Can see all kinds of 78,s. with the 70,s stuff still on some of them. Most have over 500,000 miles on them.

Sorry bro but these things are nothin but junk . You are wise to get rid of it . The problems , not with the camper conversion , but the van itself . It will beat the crap out of you going down the road because the original German design was changed in the front suspension wayg to much to save production cost . It lies with the ideler arm and the lower inner control arm bushings . They "GRAB LINES" Or so the condition was coined . The transmissions were a military design that did not do well after 1966 . They would slip going from 2nd to 3rd and would burn up . And since it's not a Chevy that tranny cost 4 times as much to re build . Not only that , combine all this with less than sensitive people that call themselves mechanics That can't aligned one and the trans shops that will not give you a warranty on anything for "MOPARS" And all you have is a driveway bomb . I used to love MOPARS , but good ol American greed screwed that up . EVERYONE THINKS THEY SHOULD LIVE ON THE HILL THE WAY THE FOREIGNERS DO . AND THEY DONT HAVE BRAINS OR KNOWHOW TO LIVE IN A TENT IN A JUNKYARD !
