1978 Honda CB400A Hondamatic Leaky Carbs Solved & Scenic Spin #cb400 #Hondamatic #vintagemotorcycle
Welcome back to our channel, gearheads and adventure lovers!
In today's episode, we are embarking on a mechanical journey to restore the heart of a classic, the fuel system of a 1978 Honda CB400A Hondamatic. This iconic machine may be over four decades old, but we're proving that it still has a lot of life left in it!
We start off in the garage, where we take you step-by-step through the entire process of overhauling the fuel system of this vintage beauty. We'll cover everything from the basics such as fuel tank and carburetor removal, to more advanced topics like cleaning, inspecting, and repairing components. For those of you who like to get your hands dirty, this is a perfect DIY guide to bring your old Honda back to life.
Once we've given the CB400A the TLC it deserves, we hit the road for a scenic ride through the beautiful Big Branch National Wildlife Refuge. Get ready for some breathtaking views and the pure, unfiltered sound of a revitalized '78 Hondamatic roaring through the wilderness. We'll show you how this timeless motorcycle takes on the open road, and why it's still a charmer after all these years.
Whether you're a motorcycle enthusiast, a lover of vintage machines, a DIY mechanic, or you're just here for the beautiful nature views, there's something for you in this episode.

Good Video - the bike still looks great in my view - I had a couple of CB250N Superdreams with a very similar engine as my first bikes. I still have an affection for this engine. Also got to ride CB250T model (think it was the Hawk in the US), Very similar to the Hondamatic in terms of style - it was a lot of fun and I my lasting memory is thinking the seat was really comfortable. The CB250T / CB400T models were only available for about 1 year before being replaced with the Superdreams in Europe. PS - I still really love the Comstar wheels on the 70's / 80's Honda bikes.

Your helper gave me a chuckle. I have one too . He is a little younger than your helper. I'm looking at a 400 right now with a manual transmission. Loved the "herding cats" comment. I use it often. Hang in there and great work. I subscribed.

I have quad carbs on my 2003 Suzuki Bandit 600. Getting them back on is such a chore. I find a little silicone grease on the inlet rubbers helps them slide on much easier. That little 400 is such a great looking bike.

Once you have the carbs loose - remove the boots connected to the head - gives you loads more room, careful of the o'rings behind them

That would be way easier than wrestling with the air box rubbers.

A whole different kind of riding with that auto for sure. How does anyone get a cleaned gas tank dry fast?
@motorcyclerewind
@motorcyclerewind 5 ай бұрын
To dry a tank after cleaning. I use my shop vac to blow air into it for about 30 minutes.

I have the same engine.. It runs GREAT after carb clean... BUT it will not return to idle. What would cause this?
@motorcyclerewind
@motorcyclerewind Ай бұрын
By not returning to idle you mean staying at higher than idle RPM.
