I was there, in the shed, wasn't on the pitch though : ) What a fightback by the Rangers and we won the Treble that season. The World's MOST successful club!

Archives, Thanks for providing this thrilling game. Unfortunately a glimpse of the unpleasant side of football we had in the past. Good performances for Rangers from Derek Johnstone and John Greig.

Fir Park was a great venue back then. Crammed in like sardines with a great atmosphere.

If anybody told you , you'd spend Sat. Afternoons pissing into a can on a bus then on a cold wet terrace you'd think they were mad ... good times !!

I was at this. Great days. Some of the tackles are eye watering. The one at 1.10 by Tam Forsyth where he puts the guy into orbit nowhere near the ball would get 2 reds today never mind 1 lol.

I also was at this match. My first Scottish football match I ever went to. Being from America and 13 years old, didn't know what the heck was going on. LOL.

'Dabhand' every team in the land in those days had a 'hooligan' element (including Motherwell) only difference is our Hooligans were tougher than yours. Had the game not been delayed who's to say it might not have finished 7 - 2 for Rangers. The point I was making is that McVie was a piece of shite - he didn't care what his actions would lead... whether punching Gordon Smith or give Rangers fans 'the arm'. Also, re the Hooligans. I notice these days it's Motherwell fans invading the pitch and inviting Rangers fans on to fight or Motherwell fans assaulting Lee McCulloch and it's still their players rounding on one Rangers player (Mohsni) with what was more like a gang assault. Your player pushes and abuses Mohsni and he reacts... waw did that really merit 6 or 7 Motherwell players attacking him? Hooligans... Hibs fans following your lead from that end of season match. Fans assaulting players okay with you? I see lots of football fans are having a good laugh at someone getting away with attempted assault on Lee Wallace - the difference THE BIG DIFFERENCE between the majority of Rangers fans and others (Motherwell inc) is that WE WOULD HAVE APPLAUDED THE SENTENCE HAD THE RANGERS FAN DOING IT GOT SENT DOWN. We won a game of football and MOTHERWELL made lots of money selling RANGERS FANS tickets for that game. How the pendulum has swung eh? Hooligans on the terraces and Hooligans on the pitch and bench (Lurgan Bigot) yet you complained (2016) about a game that took place in 1978.... I rest my case.

Was at the game. A Motherwell supporter amongst the few other Motherwell fans behind the goal on the right. Still have feelings of being robbed due to the Rangers 'fans' invading the pitch after going 2-0 down. Changed the game completely. Hooligans!!

Dabhand Remember it very well Motherwell fan's were in the wrong side they should have been at the other side of the fence so when it went to 2+0 it started a punch up as they should never been there. In saying that the Rangers fan's were all over the ground if the Attendance was 16.000 11.000 were Rangers fan's easily. These were the day's when old firm fan's could fill rival's grounds they did'nt need to travel from glasgow the support they had in lanarkshire would fill the grounds if it came to it.It was the same for Kilmarnock or Ayr games or in fife packed with wee towns full of bluenoses. What about saturday there your not saying the motherwell fan's were maybe up for a battle invading the pitch to goad the small Rangers support who had mostly left the ground disgusted after the 1st goal.

+leggie65 This was the game were Willie McVie made a rude gesture to Rangers fans and they bombarded the him with bottles. That man almost caused a riot and I'm not sure if he was dealt with by the authorities tbh.

Oh my. Rangers fans always the victims. Just got to laugh at such crazy comments. It was the Motherwell fans, no, it was a Motherwell player!! You guys are just jokes. Look a bit closer to home and you might just see the truth - but I doubt it.

No Dabhand I never said we play the victim but the fact of the matter is rival players do flick the finger or the Vicky at rival fan's esp when these small teams with crowds of less than 5000 get one of 2s big supports visiting.Rangers like Celtic fans were NEVER victims in the 70s as the supports were ultra violent esp with the baggage of the troubles in Ulster you may not understand what I'm on about if you follow Motherwell. So again no pal were never the victims lol.

Was the black armband the Gers players had on for Bobby Mckean ?.I remember they wore them for the league cup final victory over the timmites 2-1 but i will never forget the pricks singing "wheres yer bobby gone he's left his engine on"to the tune of chirpy chirpy cheep cheep.Suppose we got them back with johny Doyle and" its my attic and i'll fry if i want to "to the tune of its my party and i'll cry if i want to ahhh the 70s and 80s....
