Watched this on ESPN Classic last week. Another typical hard hitting OSU-UM game from the Hayes/Bruce-Schembechler era....a lot more yards through the air than in previous years though! Chuck Hunter's touchdown was the first against Mich for the Bucks since '75! Of course Laughlin's block and the late great Todd Bell's touchdown are part of OSU lore.

Still don't know how that ''79 OSU team came within a point of beating a USC team that was filled with players from All-Pro NFL teams of the 1980s, for the national championship. Those Buckeyes were definitely a team that as a whole was greater than the sum of the parts.

@idahobuckeye greatest game ever played. I sat 30th row goaline of the miami endzone. We outnumber the canes fans 42-1 had O-H-I-O rockin the whole stadium!

this is the first OSU-UM I distinctly remember watching a kid (was in 3rd grade). I do remember watching the previous year's Gator Bowl at my grandparent's house and not exactly comprehending why Woody would punch an opposing team's player

Wow, is this recording from the original broadcast? Guess the WXYZ 7 ID at 7:53 indicates yes. It looks pretty good. It is also one of the three games on the Ohio State beat Michigan dvd but those don't include the intros.

Ken Fritz from Ironton Ohio. He played for the great Bob Lutz most wins of any Ohio high school football coach. We may not be the vaunted 5 star sissies on rivals but we can play some football in our area. Ohio state wants kids who will play hard every game recruit kids from small town Ohio. Hell Ben Hartsock went Unioto in Chillicothe.

steve serra Both kicking and punting were horrendous for UM that season. 3 of 18 on field goals coming into this game. Punting averaged only 31.3 net yards per punt. UM special teams were just atrocious all around.
