Rothmans International Series racing came to an end at Oran Park on February 25 1979, with Alfredo Costanzo in his Porsche Cars Australia # 84 Lola T430 Chevrolet leading the championship. Warwick Brown, who had dominated the 1978 series, drove a fantastic race in the Belgian Racing Team VDS #111 Lola T332 Chevrolet to win ahead of Larry Perkins, the eventual series winner, in his #12 Kubota (Ansett) Team Elfin MR8 Chevrolet.
