Remember when they were introduced when I was at school along with the XJ650 .One of the most exciting bikes I ever rode. The golden years of the '80's were the times to ride a bike even though there were more traffic cops about! Rode two LC's, one standard and one with allspeeds, quicker on most roads than most of the big 4 strokes I owned later on. Unfortunately a very rare sight these days as are all strokers. Worth a fortune now and you will perhaps only see them as classic shows, not seen one on the road for years even though I live near Donington Park and Matlock bath.

Canadian here. Really fun to watch the build and ride vid. I raced one of these black ones back in 83 or 84 in production racing for a summer and seeing and hearing this RD was a real treat. Lovely bikes and a great intro to racing, light, braked well, handled well and with good tires had nice, predictable reaching of traction levels and sliding--perfect for a beginner racer, and frankly just fun as fricken hell racing in the 550 and 750 production classes. Lots of track time and by the time I raced, even though it was out of date, there were loads of guys like me racing on the cheap with LC's, so lots of good competition and the slow guys on the fast 550s could still be beaten by the RD. I loved also how the RD did lovely little wheelies. Fun fun bikes. Should have stuck mine somewhere and not sold it....oh well....

Great project and machine... looks and sounds like a stunner 😁 It bought back some great 2 stroke memories! Mine was a kenny roberts version (although I always liked the black and red one too ) ! Had mine for years and steadily tuned and eventually bored it out to 375cc, all ported and polished, with all speeds, racing jets and filters and all other cafe racer bits and bobs..but always went for the flat bars.... just to hang on to the wheelies 😆 .

Excellent series, this brought back real memories from years gone by, same model I owned , in Black as well , even as I watched I thought , "I know where that is " lookslike it a bit more built up now, didn't see you go past the Limeburners 😊, then when you mentioned the Orwell codes at the end, my bike came from Ray at Bickers / Orwells just as it was about to swap over to Orwells before they moved to bigger premisses 👍

Exactly the same colour and spec (no belly pan and bikini fairing} except for standard pipes as I had from new in 1983. I got one of the last ones sold on special when the LPVS arrived. Very fond memories of lifting the front wheel with a roll on throttle in first and second gear. Thanks for sharing.

Back in Late '81 or early '82 I bought one of those Mini Marvels , brand new out of the Crate . First J model sold in Australia . In White with three stripes . They look BEST in that Paint I reckon . REALLY Pretty little Bikes . Went SURPRISINGLY well out of the Box . Then I changed some stuff . First order of Business . Re-jet and Needle change AND Fibre reeds to replace the Stock stainless ones . That yielded a couple extra Top-end hp and SMOOTHED OUT the stumbly Midrange . Suddenly went WAY better , of course . K&N Pod filters and shortening the Baffle inserts yielded a few more Peak hp . Now up about 5 above stock . AND better economy ! Air-cap kit for the front Forks and oil level (ATF) fixed THAT up .Rear Suspension was actually fine . As were the Standard Pipes , with the Baffles trimmed . There are Three zones to those baffles . I ended up trimming both Baffle sections , and Leaving the Silencer section ONLY . NOT that loud . And quite crisp . Got TZ-esque sounds . Next , those Silly HEAVY Alloy wheels left . TX-500 Spoke Hub was PERFECT for the FRONT WHEEL . Needed a Sleeve for the Bearings and Discs bolted straight on . Zero fuss . Just a machine shop job for the Sleeve . Rear wheel , RD-350 spoke hub was Identical size and a longer spacer on the Brake Plate side to the Swingarm . Borrani Rims both ends . The Wire Wheels WITH TYRES FITTED , weighed less than the Bare Alloys that came off . Front with Discs fitted weighed SAME as . Went up One Tooth on the Counter-Shaft Sprocket . And Purchased a FAIRING . Two Piece purpose made for the Bike . I now had a Compact Sports Tourer , that would run with the 1100 shafties ALL DAY . Good for about 220 -230 km/h flat out , if asked . 😉. Kept all the original bits . The Jetting package had to be restored DURING RUN IN on fresh bores . 500 km . Could seize running leaner . I did 95% of the Work myself . I spent around $1000-1100 on the whole thing , measuring and Parts bin raiding . Satisfying Project . And a WONDERFUL Little Bike , that I WISH I STILL HAD ! LC Yamaha . Stolen eventually , and never seen again . 🤬 .

If I were you, I'd refuse to give it back to your mate. You may lose a friend, but a new new friend will be easy to find compared to an LC like that.

My hand over the clutch saved me from a serious accident, racing my mate, I was on my Stan Stephens tuned 350 an he was on his FZ750, I was in front going into a fast right hander an rolled off the throttle an she nipped up, pulled the clutch in as quick as I could an my mate said the rear stepped out a good foot, an we were doing over 100mph, MA1 bomber jacket, jeans an adidas trainers wouldn't have saved me much 😂
