My Dad ran a Cat D6 dozer for his father's sawmill when he was 9 years old. He always wanted his own so he bought this one 30 years ago. I want to do some much needed fixing on it.

My landlord owned a logging business and a sawmill for decades.In 1961 he bought a Cat bucket dozer new to use as a skidder.Once and a while he still uses it,it runs like new.

Ran a 1978 D6D for around 6 yrs In South Central BC. Had a Hyster winch and arch, open cab with a full roof. Turn the fan blades for the winter. Dependable machine and tough.

Cant wait to see that old girl lookin new again. Ive restored two jd crawlers, lota work but well worth it. Olive drab on the cab and gloss black undercarriage makes a dozer look pretty cool.

My uncle has an old case 1150 with a giant 6 way blade. 6 cylinder non turbo. Needs a head gasket. But it fires right up. I’m hoping to get it from him and do the head gasket and re paint it. He already put all new lags on it. If I ever get to it I’ll send you some pics

When you heat up a screw, it will expand and then it compresses the rust that is in the grooves. It is a very good way to loosen rusted screws, if you let them cool first.

David, I was pretty sure when you pulled that stick out of the radiator that we'd see a coolant leak, I just figured it would be closer to where stick was stuck!? Can't wait to see the rest.

The D6D was a good tractor. Ran one for about a year before moving on to bigger and better. But I don't think Cat ever made a tractor that wasn't top of it's class in it's day.

Can you explain the decelerator if this has one? I would like to see how you use operate it. Thanks a bunch. You would have a lot of helpers if you put the word out on your projects.
@tyfrank34273 жыл бұрын
The decelerator works the opposite of an accelerator. Cats have a hand throttle; when you operate the machine, you typically operate in full throttle. When shifting, you push the decelerator to slow the engine down. It is too hard on them to shift forward to reverse under full power, so you use the decelerator. You also use the decelerator to slow down in other situations, rather than the hand throttle. On direct drive (Manual transmission) models, you still use the decelerator when shifting.
