Trips to the Flea Markets in the 80's and 90's were filled with booths of cheap electronics and the car stereo ones were full of gear from companies such as Pyramid. Today I'm showing off a NOS Pyramid EQ donated from Sean Mullins to OSS. Such an amazing sight to see a 30yr old, brand new flea market electronic item. Now, does it work and most importantly, how much power does this "250W" EQ/Booster actually make? Let's find out!

Went to the Ebay link. To find out after all this time people are STILL trying to get over on the public by drastically overcharging for this merchandise. I wished I had a wholesale sheet I would upload it for everyone to see. Some of these Pyramid amplifier equalizer combos I was purchasing for only $12.00 even though it had a retail sticker of $249.00 and gold stickers like you see in the video with the ridiculous wattage claims. All bogus stay far away. It was garbage when it first came out and it's still garbage.

Lol BigD opened the cover of this thing and I thought I saw a big scratch-off lottery ticket inside hahaha I do remember these bad bitties and many other brands and while they didn't put out a lot of power by themselves if you shot that 11w directly into the rca input of an amplifier it sure made everyone's systems louder back in the day verses not having one 🤣😝🤷‍♂️

You have to remember, the old stock head units in the 70s and 80s were at best 2 or 3 watts so going from that to 12 watts while it may seem laughable today, was a big improvement.

The standard go to chip was good for 25W into 4R at like 10% THD... BTL output was the only way to even get that high without a supply that fed them more than 12V.... This thing would have had 2 of them in it, one for each channel

In '88 I had an '81 Mustang with stock AM radio and 1 speaker in the middle of the dash. Realizing that my boombox had speaker outputs, I bought a Craig EQ/booster and and installed a pair of 6.5" Pioneers in the rear side panels (yes, if someone on the husky side sat in the back, they would muffle the sound a bit). Running wires from the boom box to the Craig allowed me to listen to my cassettes and FM, instead of that crappy, blown dash speaker (in AM none the less). That is officially my intro to aftermarket car audio. Thanks for bringing back some nostalgia.

I had one of those back in the day. I can't remember what I paid but I think it was under $100. It sounded pretty good on some 6x9's in my old 2nd gen Camaro.

I had one of these Pyramid eq/amps as a kid in the early 90's, used it on an old battery charger driving some factory ford door speakers in my bedroom. I don't recall it ever pulling more than 5a on the (definitely accurate and reliable) ameter on the charger lol The most memorable feature of the setup was awful clipping behaviour, and if driven too hard it would start to oscillate due to the 60hz charger noise lol

5:21 Back in the day, this thing got me intrigued into car audio. Years went past and heard a guy with amp & subs system a block away, I was hooked. Old school subs seemed to have far greater sound travel & efficiency then modern subs of today.

This is the perfect setup to dash mount and then hide about 5000w of class D amps and _swear_ the Pyramid is what's knocking the windows out of it... 10/10, I absolutely would do it.

That's pretty cool! Just a couple of months ago, I bought an Audiovox AV220 off Ebay. Just like your equalizer, mine was brand new in the box and never used or installed in a vehicle. I use it in my apartment as a house stereo. It works really good. It even plays cassettes!

I remember that PYRAMID Eq from back in the day. I still have that 1990's Car stereo guide mag. But mine is in way better condition. I subscribed to that monthly CAR STEREO magazine for about three years starting in 1989 . Back in 1984 I had a CONCORD head unit with a SONY 11 band passive Eq and a TARGA 60 watt per channel amp powering a pair of 6 x 9 's Triax JENSENS on my 78 Camaro. The system sounded loud/punchy and clear. I later upgraded to a SONY head unit and an Alphasonic 50 wpc amp powering a pair of PROTON plate door speakers and a pair of MTX tweeters. A SHERWOOD 100 wpc amp powering a pair of 10' KICKER subs with an ALTEC LANSING SUB X over to control the subs and plates . Much powerful sound. Great memories from my youth years.

Eq amps were a thing in the 70's and 80's. Having a spectrum analyzer was a bonus. I honestly think if a manufacturer came out with a spectrum analyzer in a double din head unit it would sell like hotcakes. Car audio enthusiast would snatch them up left and right. Great video Big D. Awesome sauce.

I remember when these were sold, never fell into the wattage claims back then, I also remember a similar EQ from a company I think was called FAS, that EQ was amazing back in the day. I also had an EQ from I think was Audiovox, or AVX they started going by, that was not that impressive for sound, but I remember it cranked on a set of Jensen triax 2's oh the good old days. Thanx D for all that you do with these very entertaining videos👍

Back in the mid 80s we used to sell these EQs in a package deal, it was a MGT cassette deck this EQ and a pair of MGT 6 1/2s or the 6X9s for 199.00 installed. For 10.00 more you could upgrade to Jensen 6X9s :) We had a 10% defect rate on the EQs and 50% of them brought in bad ignition noise ( home-o-noise as we called it). I got a sharp pain in my neck when I saw your thumbnail.. Great video as usual... Cheers.

What is amazing is how much of a work horse most of those old audio components used to be. How many of us connected 10+ speakers to something like this back in the day? Straight up parallel and they kept working! I know I did. They didn’t put out jack for power but they just wouldn’t die.

Really nice to see after all those years in that condition, that is a gem. I've got the pyramid se 709ex it's exactly like this only difference is it got blue lights instead of green and uses rca's and hi level wires instead of the wires alone. Probably has the same 10 watts but it sounds good together with an old school pioneer premier dolphin display head unit, looking forward to see more vidoes of gems like these☺
