I don't think any country can build them like this ever again. 1st problem is modern safety standards are way too high One of my biggest questions is how 80's toyotas got better mileage than modern vehicles of today.

Gosh this brings back great memories. My friend had a 82 Pup and I an 85 4Runner. Same engine, manual trans and solid axles. We were home-ported in San Diego (Navy) during the mid 80’s. We would head to Baja to surf and these trucks were awesome. Though nowhere near as fast or powerful as today’s 4x4 trucks these early pre-runners were light, nimble and you could really feel the road and trail. This one is a real beauty and shows just how charming they looked inside and out. The biggest plus deep into Baja? They always started and had great gas mileage. I so wish I could buy this truck now. I’d sell my current 4Runner in a second.

Its amazing how some of these trucks, not just toyotas, are kept so immaculate. And I am the same as you, if I had owned that truck, it would have been used and put to work, LOL! I appreciate those old trucks nowadays, they still look good and brings back tons of memories!

Had one of these when I was a kid in the late 80s,I drove it for a couple of years.Had a lot of fun with it.Years later I saw one at a car show,I looked inside and I stood their and thought,how did I ever fit in here.

I owned a Toyota hi lux long bed in 1980 I bought with 5400 miles on it and this was pure joy watching this video and brought back some awesome memories...and back in the day this was the truck to have and they were so capable driving off road ...

My first car in 1995 was a 1980 Toyota Pickup. Got it for $300 from my neighbor. Worked many hours at McDonald's to pay for it. It had 300k miles and was full of rust holes, but I loved it.

I owed one of these.... The rear end blew apart... There was a hole in the pumpkin, So I covered the hole with some blue RTV sealant and I continued to drive it for another year!!

You might not catch my comment. These were the truck I really wanted as a new USAF airman in 1981. They were just ridiculous nice! Couldn’t afford one as the were still pretty expensive even in early 80s. Nice video you do an awesome job. You have your heart in it.

I had an 82, will technically two of them. The most sought after for 4wheeling is the 1985 Solid Axle EFI.

Always loved the 80s style of these. My step dad bought one like that brand new in blue back in the day. Great truck just a little bouncy. I’m running a 95 T-100 4 cylinder 5 speed now as my daily driver. Not many of those left either low production numbers

Had a 1980 hilux same colour but right hand drive as I live in UK, was a minter bought it off a scotsman who lived opposite me.2 years old but as new.Man it was gutless especially with 33"wheels& tries, ripped the engine out and put a 3.5 rover v8 in it TRANSFORMED it sounded lovely.

I'd love to have one in this shape in Dark Blue and Super Cab, but in today's world, they're death traps and not for today's highways. But they're perfect for ranches and for the off-roads, backwoods & mountain country excursions; light & nimble... yeah, it brings back lots of old memories.

Unreal Time Machine ! The best motor ever built 2.20R. Easy 300,000 plus . I bought a new 1998 it is still running today . I sold it it had 270,000 plus when I sold it.

These old Toyota’s are the best vehicles out there if you can find one in this kind of condition. Like myself, I believe more people are looking for the nostalgia of the 1st, 2nd, and even 3rd generation trucks and SUV’s. I recently bought a 2000 4Runner gen. 3 4x4 for $5,900.00. It has 192,000 miles on it and runs like a top. Put a nice set of wheels and tires on it and a few other accessories, and I’ve already had several people try and buy it from me. I’ll probably never buy new again.

One of my biggest regrets was getting rid of my 1988 Toyota regular cab 4x4 with the fuel injected 22re motor. It wasn't mint but it was close enough. This 1980 looks spectacular.

just stumbled onto this clip.. ive always loved the yota, and finally snagged myself a single-owner 1994 reg. cab 4wd, new-ish 22RE 2.4L ( 90k mi) pickup... mines nice and geting nicer as im a yota addict now! anyway, this 1980 is Tits for sure...really should be a display piece like a living time-capsule for that lived when things simpler--- more personal... some ya'll know what im talking about.. but i ant that old--- i was blasting out my Ma the year this truck was built. lol! Sweet Yota!

I've almost sold mine about 3 times. Very glad I haven't. Just sold my other car to keep the 88 yota. Got it at 32k miles and not its at 87k

I had the same truck 20r. Motor. 4 speed manual. Very dependable truck mine was great in the snow excellent off road it just got really rusty I put hundreds and thousands of miles on it then the 1986 came I bought the new Toyota turbo pickup
