Funny thing is I collect WW2 survival kits. What's cool is numerous items haven't changed. The compass and the machete are exactly as WW2. The dual sided hat is another item carried. The sunburn ointment was a tin that was foil wrapped.

I'm certain the machete you found in this kit the is of a brand called "Woodsman's Pal." I know of its use by the US military, as you see, and I have studied these machetes and heard of them before.

That is a "Woodman's Pal" machete, multi-tool. Those things are priceless. Used one in the military and now around the camp. Were issued in the Pacific Theater of WWII. An original issue is pretty pricey.

That right there is a Woodsman's tool. Available with stacked leather and guard or with just a wooden handle, and still made today.

Pretty sure those "paddles" are actually reflectors for use at night to create attention and help people find you. It says it on the back of them.

the 2 flares are MK 13 day/night flares, the cap with the 3 bumps are so at night you can feel them and know that is for night use. This kit is an under seat over water kit

Survival Kit, Individual, Overwater. Designed for the seat pans of fighter aircraft (hence the snap-locks through the cover to hook to the pilot's parachute harness. We also issued to Army helicopter aircrews. This one looks like it was Air Force issue.
