Daisy. I stopped by my parent’s house to watch the game. We were stunned at first, that the Americans won!!🥇 We slowly realized that our team had the heart ♥️ and drive, and a genuine friendship between the players; that made this moment in sport’s history that will never happen again. What a genuine thrill to witness the game. I watched the game again for the 40th year reunion. It never gets old!!!

I was working as an electrician through out the olympics doing everything and anything just a few days before I was hanging light fixtures in the mezzanine of the Field house then I found myself assigned behind the USA goal camera for the greatest game ever that I'll never forget, at the end of the 1st period the heat went out in the Russian locker room and I had to reset a breaker there to get it back on the KGB escorted me every inch of the way stood but thanked me for fixing the heat and gave me a 1980 summer Olympic Mockba (that we boycotted) solid gold lapel pin that I cherish to this day, then I went back behind the camera.

Soviet League goal scoring leaders were in 1980 Shalimov 34 goals Drotzdetzky 31 Varnakov 30 Priodin 27 Lavrentjev 27 Only good Russian was in olympics in 1980 Makarov 29! Lake placid had good players like Jari Kurri Peter Stastny Glenn Anderson Neal Broten! NHL points leaders after olympics 1980s Gretzky Kurri Stastny Anderson Neal Broten! Soviet played badly against Canada*s trash team 6-4! Finland was leading 2-1 two minutes to go against Soviets who won only 4-2! Neal Broten 105 points 38 goals in the NHL! Mark Pavelich 37 goals in the NHL! USA and Canada should have 15 guys today who have scored over 800 goals like Ovechkin today because 1,1 million players Canada and USA vs 80000 Russia! USA had More players and ice hockey players in 1980 than Russia! USA should be the favourite in 2026 olympics 6xtimes but the USA tv and newpapers gonna say miracle lie! Good will games in 1990 Soviet vs USA 10-3 3-3 and 1980 10-3 3-4 The Hard truth is Soviet could score 6,5 goals against young USA team no miracle! Broten 105 points NHL and Makarov 86 points NHL no miracle!!

First hockey game I ever saw, on ABC Wide World of Sports on a Sunday. My dad stood next to me and said nothing as we watched the tape-delay version. I still remember some of the goals and the ending. My family started to ice skate because of this game, and my brother and I played hockey for 2 years. Good times!

The Hard truth is that Soviet could score 6,5 goals against young USA before the olympics 10-3 and 1980 olympics 3-4 and good will games in 1990 Same results 10-3 3-3 Soviet against young USA! Soviet scored against us Finland 6,8 goals 1970-1980! Finland had 21 ice rinks in 1980! Finland have today 274 ice rinks buildings to play hockey! I went to that game at MSG. As I recall it was on a Sunday afternoon- early evening. I recall one goal the Soviets scored where the assist sent the puck about two feet in the air in front of the goal and the scorer just knocked it in. The US forechecking was helpless against the Russian break out passing. It was amazing how much better the US team looked in the Olympics.

The Soviet coach said that Herbie sandbagged the 10-3 game. Could this have happened?
@Greatvocalmajority4America5 ай бұрын
@@mxdavis not possible. That just wasn't Herb Brooks. I was at that game at MSG. The Soviets were just that much better. But when they played the US team in the Olympics, the Soviets were overconfident. Winning came too easily to them. And the Americans were pumped and very highly motivated. It was the greatest upset in the history of sports and nothing comes close to it. Herb got those kids toughened up. A lot of those player went on to great success in the NHL. For example, Kenny Morrow, who played defense went straight to the NHL after the Olympic games and won four straight Stanley Cups with the NY Islanders. A few other players had decent careers as well. So, there was real talent on this team.

I lived in Mpls. in 1976-80. Attended a number of pre-Olympic games played at the Met Center. Was an avid Gopher hockey fan for years. Went to at least 2 games a year for the previous 4 years. Herb was a good coach. Not likable by his players, but he was a known winner. It's not surprising he chose 12 native Minnesotans for the team. He knew them. He knew he could count on them. What a journey. Glad I was able to experience it

The number of Minnesota players was absolutely a function of about 8 players turning pro early. G - Steve Baker - Mass D - Rod Langway - Mass D - Richie Dunn - Mass D - Gordie Roberts - Mich F - Tom Gorence - Minn F - Joe Mullen - NY F - Chris Nilan - Mass F - Mike McDougal - Mich So about 5 Minnesota, 1 Michigan 1 Mass and 1 Wisconsin player would have been cut. Janaszak, Verchota, Schneider and Harrington along with Drunk one and Wells. G Baker\Craig D - Langway- O'Callahan Roberts - Morrow Dunn - Baker C Johnson Pavelich Broten Christian W Mullen McClanahan Christoff Silk Cox Gorence Nilan McDougal

Here in Finland we knew every player by name in the Russian team AND if like Krutov got the puck, then it was a goal in a few seconds...For some reason (in Lake Placid) Finland played a really good game against Russia and only lost by 4-2...I remember Sweden boasting after Lace Placid that they also would beat the Russians in the following World Championships 1981 at their home tournament.. The result 13-1... (to Russia oc and the Swedes remain very quiet about this facr, but I bet they will revenge bomb this post). BUT then again Russia was out for revenge after the Olympics.. They wanted slaughter. And check the results after the fact. They got it.
