I was sent to a psychologist (!) because I was on and off the dole so often (- their logic, not mine -). I've kept the letter all these years, from the psychologist who stated that all I needed was a hair cut and a more fashionable suit. I rather liked that suit. It was a gift from my uncle!

Wow, I was told a very similar thing when I was a teen. That the way I dressed would improve my outlook... I thought it was b.s., but maybe there is some truth in that... What do you think now that you are a few years older and wiser.

@@loveenduresallthings I appreciate that, in hindsight, first impressions, especially at the job interview, last. But I was skint, at the time. I ended up doing a course, and working for a long time, in the aged and disability sector. I did eventually get a hair cut and a nice suit, Ironically because I was given a chance at a job I could do, and raised a bit of money to do so 😁

@@jennytaylor3324 Indeed. I laugh about it now, but as a 17 year old I felt a mix of despair and disbelief. As a side note, four years ago, my daughter had (.. still has..) a male friend, from a poor family who was going to an end of high school function, but he didn't have a suit. My wife and I didn't need to be asked.. I'm not saying that to big note myself. I'm just saying that, with age, there are times that just shout at you, "Remember when.."

@crazyclive The point seems to be that a lot of elderly racists have found this video, haven’t listened to a word in it, and are using to say the past = white = better than today. That’s the good thing about right-wing talking points: any idiot can memorize them :)

There s a place..in Europe..where that what the fella in the leather suit said has became truth, although the PM is a nice guy now (he should get mad maybe?) 'is everybody on the dole the ideal'.. can you guess the place, its not far from Britain..yeah Nether lames the answer you guessed it right. And who are the ltds here, one ponders, have they no other tasks than yak after they looked up in a list what the patron saint is this weak? Mention digital. Mention industry 2.0 Mention handwork. Solar panels, obviously, twice every Q. Never mention customer, it would backfire, risk avoidance you d not have to teach em. A Taiwanese actor, briefed, would sound exactly thesame as Holland entrepreneurs (but would probably dress better)

Young people moaning about how bad their lives are and it's all the government's fault. Been like that since the 1950s.

To give them their dues they were coming to maturity under Thatcher's government. As a graduate of 1992, I can tell you it wasn't fun if you liked the arts. I think the young are, generally speaking, proactive problem solvers, and quite a few on here had ideas as to how things might be done. Maybe I'm biased, as i used to teach 11-16 year old, and found them delightful.

@@jennytaylor3324 there are those that moan and seek to blame others for there situation, whilst there are those that seek solutions. In my experience those that seek solutions tend to be happier and more successful.
