I like how that Acura SUV was waiting for you to go. The driver had clearly recognized what had pulled up alongside them. And then you can see him in the rearview, chasing you once you moved the right and overtook those cars.

Very true. Back in the day you could get a mainstream model with a 6 cylinder engine, and chances are it does sound very good. Today, you get a sports car with 6-8 cylinders and it sounds worse than a 150hp BMW 320i from the nineties without all the fake exhaust pops and cracks and interior speaker-magic.

tell me... how is this audio binaural? Sure the guy in the passenger seat is holding a recording device but where are the microphones mounted and what relative movement is achieved when the sound source is in the car ie. at a constant distance from the mics?

The microphones are mounted in the drivers ears. You hear exactly what the driver hears from the same location the driver hears it.

Sadly it never will. BMW's new turbo I6 engines don't sound anything like these old ones... the one in the Supra is OK, but still not comparable. The one in the M2 Competition, however, is worse than some 4-pots.

@AlexF I don’t even like that. It’s decent, but it’s not a Supra-no rear seats. Toyota should call it the 3000GT Mark II, make 200 of them and sell them for a million dollars apiece, and be done with it. The Lexus LC with an updated 2JZ would have made a lovely Supra.

@@2W3X4YZ5 You can't just update a very old engine to meet modern regulations. You have to start from scratch, and making a new engine just wasn't worth it for Toyota. I think we should be grateful for what we got - a small sports car with a decent engine that's very much fun and highly customizable. Some have already brought the engine of the new Supra to 700+ horsepower. We can bitch all we want about it 'not being a Toyota' and 'not being a Supra' - it's still more of a Supra than the new Eclipse being an Eclipse, and still a more easy to acquire car than the new NSX.

2W3X4YZ5 - While I disagree on the updated 2JZ part (it is a VERY old engine), Toyota definitely should have used their own platform. People seem to forget that the king daddy MKIV Supra was based off of the Toyota Soarer/Lexus SC400, not the other way around. What was the Lexus SC? A GT car. What is the Lexus LC? A GT car. Would seem to make sense, right? Not if you’re Toyota, apparently...
