Opening a wax pack of 1981 Topps baseball cards. Got some stars and a huge rookie!

In today's world and, 1981 it is a very nice hit, having 2 on the same card means a lot. I'm old school and, started collecting in the 60's, I'll soon be 63 years young. I was about 19 years old, in my 2nd year serving in the Army 1981.

Thanks bud! The centering is dead on. There’s an ink smudge on the surface, but I’m sending it to SGC anyway just to get it slabbed for the PC. Definitely fun to pull such a sharp example!

I also began collecting when I was 9 years old in 1981. My uncle worked at a liquor store and he let me open an entire box. I was hooked!

Jim C. Goodfellas yes! I was so excited to pull that card. Such a tough one condition wise too. This one is perfectly centered but after looking at it closely there are some surface issues. Still one of my favorite pulls though! Thanks for checking it out!

Stopped during my senior year in h.s. in '80-'81 & didn't even follow football. Guess what? Missed Joe! This coming from a Niners fan. Funny thing is through the '80s basketball, football & hockey cards were undervalued & not appreciated. Even in '89 you could buy a '81 Topps football set for $30! All the focus was on Topps Traded '86. Fleer Basketball debut was slammed by the hobby experts. Talk about eating crow. Bottom line: collect "for the fun of it" (Topps 1979 slogan) 😇⚾

I remember buying at least one box of 81 Topps, ripped it open. I still have a decent collection of Tim Raines rookies. Glad he got in HOF!

Collecting "for the fun of it" is really why we rushed home from the store growing up. For an investment? No kid even knew that concept. In 1975/76 getting a Reggie, Pete, or Johnny was the ultimate. That & the bubblegum. 😇⚾

Yeah, exactly. I've been told that the sets I collected over the years (from specifically the late 80s/early 90s) are "worthless." Not to me, they're not.

I opened a pack of 81 topps back in 1989 ish at a card shop. I ate the gum. It was so disgusting. It turned to powder in my mouth.😂

I began collecting at 5 years old in 1980 but never pulled a Henderson. 81 was fun though pulled Raines Fernando Baines etc.

Nice hit! Really nice centering on that card. Pack fresh! Get it graded. Love that set. Collected a bunch of it. I'm only 11 cards shy of completing that set. I really should go find them at a hobby store or online.

As of 6/15/2022 last Valenzuela RC sold for a whopping $1.95, but considering yours is in mint condition and near perfect centering, might be worth a bit more.

have 2 pages of those....18 total. I just keep them in case my kids want them. Same with Mike Schmidt and Robin Yount rookies but their values are questionable in todays market.

The most valuable cards in 1981 Topps are PSA 10s of a few oddball players who have very low pop reports in PSA 10. These cards are desired heavily by guys building a set registry.

There had never been a PSA 10 on a 81 Topps #302 but I think there is now. Looks perfect to me with the alignment. Nice card. Let us know how it graded.

Ended up being a 7.5 with SGC. There was some ink smudges on the surface. Otherwise that card is perfect!

@@nostalgicaboutbaseball Almost impossible to get these old 80s graded at 10s. The paper is not like the Tiffany's or even the o pee chee.. Mine in 1980 ,81 and 82s in unopen boxes I just open were slightly warped. The ones that are PSA 10s were graded years ago. I was pulling for you to get a 9 or 10 but I expected a 7 or 8. Nice try.
