Great ride, why the heck would anyone give it a thumbs down? They may not be a nice person. Great job and I love all of your old Honda's!

Thanks for the kind words.. I do get some feedback that viewers think I should narrate my videos.. that might be it.. or perhaps that I drive too slowly.... LOL

That is a great little motorcycle.

Edward, Thanks for watching and your comment, much appreciated. I agree with you, but I don't ride it very much, perhaps 3 or 4 times a year. I mainly ride a motorcycle to run errands, and even if I just go out for a ride, I usually end up carrying stuff home. There isn't much storage on the MB5, so I usually choose a different motorcycle.. LOL

GREAT little bike, and such a blast to ride! I have the exact same one, in red, with the luggage rack for about 10 years now. Had a black one when they were sold in the U.S. back in 1982, I think it was. Used to love riding the bike up and down the winding service road along the Hudson River overlooking NY on the Jersey side. Was foolish to sell it. I got the urge to find one again after all these years, and got lucky when this elderly couple who collect bikes sold me one in 'near mint' condition. The only issue was that the bike bogged down a bit, and only hit around 30 MPH. A few tanks of adding 'Seafoam' fixed the issue, and now she hits about 52 MPH! The stares and comments I get is priceless! Fun times!

@AudiophileTubes, Thanks for watching and your comment. I looked for that rear rack for several years and finally got lucky when a used one popped up on eBay. My MB5 was cherry until it fell over inside of my van while I was loading it by myself to go up to Suches, Georgia, for the True Grits 50cc meet about 6 years ago. I thought I had it secure and walked around the van to put the straps on the other side and I heard it fall over. The fall put a dent in the tank.. broke my heart. At 21:58, the dent is about 4 inches above the N in Honda. I still ride it about twice a year, and it has always run like new. It also appears briefly in this video that I made last year: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/f7qJf8WTzs23eHk.html The dent is hard to spot in that video, but it is there..

My pleasure! I enjoy searching for MB5 videos online. Yes, i've heard that the luggage rack is rare indeed. It's too bad about your dent, but i'm sure that can somehow be fixed. My MB5 is in truly excellent condition, except for some 'pitting' and discoloration on the chromed wheel rim, but it is minimal. I've had many bikes over the years, but my MB5 is probably the most fun to ride, and it turns heads everywhere since it sounds like a 'screaming banshee', and looks like a mini-Ducati. To me, it really is a beautiful little motorcycle, and a work of art! Just curious, what kind of crankcase oil do you use? I lost the manual, and I don't remember what kind and viscosity to use. I was also thinking to try synthetic oil in the crankcase, and i'm not sure if it would damage anything, or impede the gear shifting ability. @@Vintage_Garage

I've heard about, and watched some of the 'True Grits' videos, and it seems like a truly fun outing! Does this ride still take place? There is also (or was) some kind of ride or race around Lake Erie years ago, mostly for smaller bikes. I'm not sure if that still takes place.@@Vintage_Garage

@@AudiophileTubes I just looked at my 3-ring MB50 binder, and I don't have a user manual in there, so I don't think I ever had one. Also was surprised to find that there wasn't a workshop manual in their either. I did a google search just now, and it will take some time to find one or a workshop manual. I hadn't even given any thought to the crankcase/gearbox oil, and realized that I have never even checked it. I do use Honda GN2 in the oil injector tank. If I can find the weight of the recommended crankcase oil, then I would see if Honda sells it, and then buy it from my Honda dealer. I'm still googling to see if I can find the oil recommendation... no luck yet. I just gave up and bought a used MB5 Workshop Manual on eBay. I thought I already had the workshop manual for all of my motorcycles, but didn't. Update: I just looked through the saved files on my computer and found a .pdf that is the owners manual. To quote it from Page 44: "Transmission Oil Recommendation USE HONDA 4-STROKE OIL OR AN EQUIVALENT. Use only high detergent, premium quality motor oil certified to meet or exceed US automobile manufacturers' requirements for Service Classification SE or SF. Motor oils intended for Service SE or SF will show this designation on the container. The use of special oil additives is unnecessary and will only increase operating expenses. CAUTION: * Engine oil is a major factor affecting the performance and service life of the engine. Non-detergent, vegetable, or castor based racing oils, are not recommended. Recommended Oil Viscosity SAE 10W-40 Other viscosities shown in the chart below may be used when the average temperature in your riding area is within the indicated range." So the answer is that I would recommend Honda GN4 10W-40 for the crankcase/transmission oil in a MB5

@@AudiophileTubes True Grits is still running as far as I know, typically the last Saturday in October. Because of the date, the weather can be lousy. One year, I went up and didn't even unload as it was steady rain. One year the weather was sunny and dry and I wore a blue denim jacket and blue jeans and had a red helmet. The web site is still showing the forms for October, 2023, but I expected it will be updated this summer. It is at: www.champsclock.com/50cc.htm This video has an MB5 right at the beginning, but it is not me: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/l9emgLth1dTeoas.html This one has better weather: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/od-fq7OpzKjeiZ8.html

No way! I use to have one of these bikes. I only got to ride it briefly though because I was young and didn't have the money to get it fixed. Such a cool retro bike.

Such a great bike. I first saw one of these at the 1982 Superbike races at Laguna Seca. Honda arranged to have a race of about 8 of these in between classes. I truly wish they would have given the bike more than one year to catch on here in the US. Definitely on the short list of a future purchase, should a good buy present itself here in the PNW. I'd love to have one on hand for non (motorcyle) licensed friends to join me for a ride.

Jo.. thanks for the comments, much appreciated. We have the same rules in Florida where one can ride a 50cc motorcycle without a motorcycle endorsement, and so in theory, friends can ride them when they come over. I've found though that they'd rather ride one of my 50cc scooters, as they have trouble with the clutch and gearshift until they get some practice, and would rather just "twist and go". We do see one or two MB5s on craigslist.org for sale here each year. I was looking to buy a black one to complete the set, and will still buy a nice one if it comes up for sale in Florida, but I am pretty much out of storage space. I did take my red one to the True Grits 50cc motorcycle run in Suches, Georgia, the first year that I had the motorcycle. I'd highly recommend that to anyone in the Southeast.
