もはや説明などいらないのではないかと思うが、アーケードゲーム史の金字塔「ゼビウス」である。当時のハードウェアは、お世辞にも表現力が高いとはいえないスペックであったが、キャラクターをグレー系の配色で統一し、さらに光源を統一するという手法で、美しいグラフィックを描き出すことに成功している。また、隠れキャラクターのソルやスペシャルフラッグの存在も忘れてはならない。なお、このゲームは後に「ドルアーガの塔」などを製作する遠藤雅伸氏によるものである。

The player pilots a combat aircraft called a 'Solvalou' which is armed with a forward-firing gun for aerial targets, and bombs for destroying ground-based targets. A red targeting square is situated in front of the Solvalou, which allows the player to aim their bombs accurately. The enemy craft appears in a number of different guises; from the standard variety that arrive in large numbers but shoot slow-moving projectiles, to exploding black spheres that shoot projectiles at high speed. There are also rotating shields that cannot be destroyed and must be carefully avoided. Ground enemies are a combination of both stationary bases and moving vehicles, most of which fire slow-moving projectiles. A gigantic, floating fortress (called 'Andor Genesis') appears in certain areas; this is defeated by knocking out its core.
Xevious is actually divided into 16 different areas, which are separated by an area of forest. If a player dies before less than 70% of an area has been completed, play restarts at the beginning of the same area; should a life be lost AFTER 70% of an area has been completed, however, play restarts at the beginning of the next area. After Area 16 has been completed, the game loops back to Area 7.

昔の駄菓子屋さんに置いてあったゼビウスは、ほとんど画面焼けしてました。画面焼けまで再現した移植作品があれば、リアルタイムでプレイした人にとっては眼から鱗だったでしょう‼️

Man, how I loved to watch people play this game. I was lame, but some dudes nailed it, so I watched them play because I just loved the graphics (speacially those Naska drawings).

I loved the nasca lines, pyramids and those indestructible squares flying through the sky, the whole game is strange and mysterious. its like an ancient earth but invaded my aliens

One of the best video games pre-1990. Finding the hidden extra lifes and points in the water areas helps make the game easier. I have gotten to the gold tank but never survived, just like this video.

As it started, I wondered if he knew of the hidden things. First hidden object revealed answered that. Oh how many times I missed the one near the nazca bird wing also. Thx for the trip back in time.

Man those were the 2012-13 days of my childhood. I remember when it was my most favorite arcade game on the Wii and the 3DS Edit: oh wait I played that game in 2011 when I had the Red-Yellow-White plug that was full of xevious and all of the Namco games connected to the tv

Great classic shooter it brought a sense of mystery and sci fi when you were playing it ! the music also helped although it got pretty annoying after a while

It's very strange... I realize how old Xevious is and that it's pretty basic with its mechanics compared to others in the genre. And yet, I keep finding myself coming back to it every now and then. I guess the slightly random nature of the enemy waves and the game's pull on the player to achieve new records are its strongest aspects that have aged well... at least for me.

All the comments, and no one's mentioned the "screen burn in" where an image has been on a screen for so long that it is burnt into the screen. In this case the Xevious logo can be seen during gameplay in the middle of the screen.

There's nothing that can ever make your enemies disappear. You have to be so precise. Since the game isn't mega zone. You take the pure teardrop and it makes your enemies disappear. It takes a good aim, cincentration rather than being trigger happy.

I think this game had exceptional creativity with the enemies/sprites for a 1982 game. I played this at my local fish n chip shop being about 6 years old and the daughter of the owner (same year) always came out to watch me. Too bad the place burnt down not long after that. Pre 1985 games tend to loop and you dont get a screen "you saved the universe" and this is my only gripe about this game. I dont like endless.

I got to around 750,000 one game, i was random bombing for S Flags, and believe this or not, i bombed up a 1 inch square MARIO in his car. It went from upper left to right on the screen. This is not a joke, and my friend back then, saw it with me. 83-84. Anyone else ever seen this?.

31minutes with 100円 its well spent :) i remember that was a guy that play this on my young days gamecenter that usualy plays more than 3 hours with a single coin in the screen after u die and it says 1-2-3 solvalou left it was not even a number anymore it was a letter :) just a question for NANCO fans does this game have an END???

yes, xevious is hard some times somedays i keep dying on the same area, other days i can get up to 200k+ points. every gameplay is a hit or miss.

Going back and forth between the Atari and Namco, I've noticed that the Atari's air attacks intensify noticeably earlier in the game (i.e. you get harder enemies thrown at you earlier)
