Sprocket swap and the conveyor belt mod and those blowers work ten times better yet.

I love the sound of the Onan Twin cyl.👍 I had a 316 with an 18 hp Onan with a blower and it was a great tractor. It only had single hydraulics for lift only. Had to angle by hand if needed.🤔

I love the Onan too, doesn't sound like normal engines. It's more like a diesel. Lol, thanks for watching!

Wow, that 318 works great, and 500 bucks, well worth every penny. Great video, looks like you had yourself some fun.

Great video. I may have gotten that storm too. I’m in PEI. I have a 1970 John Deere 140H3. With a 49 thrower a mowing deck. I have a hydraulic cylinder on the top defector on the chute. Works great. I don’t have a cab on this one. A steal for your tractor at 500 bucks. Have a good day.

Thanks so much. This is my first JD and I'm so amazed in the craftsmanship. I like the hydraulic cylinder idea 💡. I'm going to try that this summer. Thanks for the idea.

Great video! And what a great snowfall to play in! That snowblower works GREAT. Single stage blowers can blow just as far as the 2 stage units and they are more efficient, lighter, simpler and they can mount closer to the tractor, so more maneuverable! I think the manufacturers want people to go to 2 stage blowers because they think they don't look as scary and because they can charge more for them!

Thank you! I so agree on the single stage blower.

Cool classic JD. The cab is awesome. I’ll just say I’ve been around a few different snowblowers in my time and a single stage snowblower is not as efficient as a two stage. Nor can they throw snow as far as a two stage. A single paddle on an auger simply cannot be as efficient as three fan blades spinning, plus a a faster rpm. I’ve seen both operate many times and there is definitely a difference. Especially in wet heavy snow. Yes single stage snowblowers are less expensive and can be effective in the right application, but with limitations.

The cab frame is the original fabric frame, the older gentleman that I got it from replaced the fabric with wood and rubber to keep out all airflow . It's very warm from the heat from the motor. I don't disagree with 2 stage blowers but for this JD it will stay original with single stage. Thanks for commenting!

@@lcee6592 Maybe your experience has been with poor single stage blowers and good 2 stage blowers and so you have your opinion. But the fact is that there are good and bad in both types. As far as blowing distance, it is easy to calculate based on paddle size, paddle wheel diameter and RPM. Whether that paddle is in the center of the auger on mounted behind it makes no difference. The big difference between 1 and 2 stage units is how well they break up the snow ahead and feed it into the paddle wheel. Every make is different on this point. I have used dozens of different blowers over the years and 1 thing I will say is that 2 stage blowers use a LOT more power than single stage blowers. Whether they work good or not is a result of the design. One blower I had was a single stage 8 ft unit with 150 hp. It moved a lot of snow. I also had another 8 ft 2 stage blower that had marginally more capacity but it had 400 hp! And it was hugely more complicated and expensive. I like simple. I like cheap. I like economical.

@@dieselgypsy1100 Yes of course design can make a difference, that’s common knowledge. Yes two stage throwers generally take more hp. That’s the very nature of more rotational drag. Today’s two stage designs and even many of the older ones ( BTW I’m referring to consumer oriented throwers not 86” commercial size) generally require about 15-20% more power. The engineers factor that in their designs. But the fact is, the two stage inherently throws more cf of snow than a single stage if you compare similar sized blowers. Is there a greater chance of mechanical problems with a two stage blower? Of course, more moving parts. Aside from the rare poor design, poor maintenance is the number one cause of equipment failure, misuse/abuse is a close second. There is nothing wrong with single stage throwers but one can’t logically deny there are way more two stage throwers out there for a reason. That you prefer single stage is fine with me. Some people prefer a snow plow over anything else, speaking of reliability. I’m not knocking single stage blowers, if it gets the job done that’s all anyone can ask.

I have the exact setup. They are work horses. I did install a new motor this summer. Can't wait to see how it works this year. She got a great deal!! Oh👍 and I did subscribe.

The 318 sure made quick work of all that snow. I have a 1992 model 318 myself with a 49 blower. It's amazing the amount of snow these tractors can move. Tell your wife that's the best $500 she ever spent. These tractors are true work horses. When these were built they were ahead of their time really, I think even today it would be hard to find a comparable tractor in the price range these were in with all the same features. Nice cab too, was that on it when you got it or did you put that on later?

Thanks for the comment. I am amazed with the performance these older JD tractors can do. The cab was like this when I got it, the Ole feller that had it built it back in 83 and made it air tight. My wife says thank you!

Any carbon monoxide issues in cab?

Nope, the exhaust is in the front of the tractor. The motor is sealed right before the front of the cab starts.

I am in the Buffalo area, after the second big lake effect dump, I did a couple of mods to my single stage blower set-up. A big problem here is wet snow, the xtra paddles help with that-kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jdaphKShp8_TYY0.html Mike

Lol, thanks for the comment. A single stage blower can only throw snow a small distance. Trying to move 2 feet or more snow is impossible when trying to blow a 10-foot wide driveway with this setup.
