Two of my favorite baseball heroes here are now deceased, but my other ones are alive and living. RIP George "Sparky" Anderson and Dick Howser. Thank you for uploading this...it's priceless to me.

I love the announcements of the players without music and fanfare. Just a guy reading their names over a tinny sounding PA system.

That series was closer than it looks on paper, and was invaluable experience for those young Royals pitchers who would go on to dominate in '85.

This is a game that Al Michaels refers to in his book. Cosell usually drank during the games, but this times drinking much more than usual. Michaels finally blew up at him after the broadcast. This is near the end of Cosell's career when he was really unhappy and making everyone around him unhappy. Fascinating guy though. I always liked him as a kid.

Almost didn't watch this when I saw that Cosell was on the broadcast. Am so glad NBC had the world series that year.

@@rmcrae62 It was a complete blessing when ABC saw fit to remove Howard Cosell from his scheduled announcing duties alongside Al Michaels and Jim Palmer for the 1985 World Series and replace him with Tim McCarver. That was to me, when ABC truly and finally "came of age" in regards to their baseball coverage from that era.
@TMC1982Part2 Жыл бұрын
If I remember correctly, Al Michaels noted how Howard Cosell always carried this negative energy whenever he had to work with him. Like Cosell would always show up in a foul and bitter mood and made everybody else feel like they had to walk around on eggshells.

I believe game 2 was the worst as it went into extra innings and you can tell cossell is getting more and more wasted.
@BrianONEILL-qf2csАй бұрын
@@jbtornado Game 2 was what led to Michaels going off on Cosell at the bar in their hotel in KC. For the next(and last) game in Detroit, Michaels later acknowleged that there had been a tense, uncomfortable atmosphere, and there was almost no conversation between innings. There were one or two moments during the game where Cosell tried to draw Michaels and Palmer into a 'discussion'. At one point, Cosell reacted to Michaels reading a promo for 'Nightline',and at another, Cosell directed a dismissive comment toward Palmer.

If we had the three divisions back then like we do today, in the system we have this year (2020 only), the Royals. would’ve finished 20 games behind Detroit in the AL Central in 2nd and would be the 5 seed. The format using this year’s playoff system would have been: 1) Detroit (AL Central Winner) v 8) Baltimore (2nd WC) 4) NY Yankees (2nd AL East) v 5) Kansas City (2nd AL Central) 2) Toronto (AL East Winner) v 7) Boston (1st WC) 3) California (AL West) v 6) Oakland (2nd AL West)

I actually thought the game was well umpired. Example: 1:17:33 that pitch is off the plate. The announcers were making a big deal like the umpire missed a strike, but I think the umpire got the call right.

The Cubs were supposed to have the Home Field Advantage and thus Games 3-4-5 at home, but because they didn't have lights at Wrigley and NBC wanted their weekend games in Prime Time, the Cubs lost Home Field and had to play Weekday Games 1-2 at home
@pronkb0002 жыл бұрын
There was even talk of the Cubs having to play their World Series games at either Comiskey or in Milwaukee. I think eventually they worked out a compromise where the Cubs would also lose HFA in the Series (which they would have had) in exchange for getting to play at Wrigley, until Leon Durham, Steve Garvey, and company made it moot.
