Time played it's toll on this 1984 Camaro. After almost 3 decades under a cover, the paint needs desperate rust repair, paint buffing, and ceramic treatment. The interior is in excellent condition for being original, but needs a cleaning as well. The carburetor also needs a rebuild from the long journey across the US with bad fuel. You won't believe how well this old classic car cleans up! Let's get this ol' gal back on the road where it belongs!

One of the best things about Derek is that he truly cares about the car's history and always tries to retain the sentiment of the car by finding a proper new owner, as opposed to just flipping the cars to make a buck. Hell, he even takes a loss sometimes just to get the car into the hands of someone that really needs it. There's really not many ppl out there like Derek nowadays.

@@craigbielsky115 No doubt, especially since how much his channel has grown, but there are plenty of other guys out there that only care about making loot even after they've made it bigtime on YT. Derek seems to be the type of guy that won't forget where he came from. Although, money has a way of changing ppl and almost nobody is immune to that. Hopefully he stays true to himself. Seems like the type of guy that will. Time will tell though.

I started as a mechanic in the late '80s when these things were getting divorced from the dealer, and then had 80k miles on 'em so the vac lines were rotting away, if they hadn't already been butchered by some yahoo trying to bypass the emissions equipment "for more power."

Did they have the silly chip-in-key security system that didn't work in '84? My '89 did, until the first time it broke and the service manager at the dealer performed a warranty repair by deleting it outright. :)

@@ZGryphon thankfully, i never had to work on one of those first gen key chip cars. i worked at used car lots mostly until i opened my own shop. then i realized i could earn more as a carpenter and have less stress, so i switched to building things and only repaired vehicles as a side gig. wood will always be wood, it doesn't completely change every 6-10 years like vehicles do. to be a tech now you almost have to have an electrical engineering degree to keep up with them. it used to be you could listen to them run and figure out what was wrong. now you have to own thousands of dollars worth of scan tools in addition to the tens of thousands in hand tools just to ask the multiple onboard computers what is wrong before you can fix them. that's why i have to give it to wes' generation for sticking with it. a lot of old timers like me are retiring from the business because of the stress from the way things are now. i spent 5k on school, and 8 years as a tech, then 4 years learning carpentry and 24 years on my own, and don't regret it for a second.

Runs good, but a few little minor things needs repair like A/C, rear hatchback latch, radio. The interior is in good condition, seats not torn or worn, floorboard carpet might have a couple little black stains, but that's it, no rips. Over all very good condition, T-tops don't leak, still drive it often, when we don't have alot of snow🤣🤣

So, now i listen to you, explaining what you are doing, why you are doing it, based on what the paint process on the car is. i learned all over again. If i didn't know how, after listening to you, i would have been able to tackle the project, with a better understanding, You are great at explaining to a guy, i always learn something from a guy who can explain everything simply, and to the point, with out wasted words or boring, you are far from boring my friend...Thanks again Derek.

A Vice Grip Story. So, I have hitchhiked all over the United States and Canada. I do not travel light. But one piece of gear that I am always careful to include is a set of Vice Grip plyers. The eight inch size. It is also handy to have a small set of needle nose Vice Grips. Now, I'm sure that I don't need to espouse the uses that Vice Grips can be utilized for. But there is one feature that I believe is mostly overlooked. What I'm talking about is using it as an impact wrench when you don't have an impact wrench. I was hitchhiking my way through Nevada, and the guy that was giving me a lift had a flat tire. So, it looks like we're changing a tire in the desert heat. Inventory: spare with air... check. Jack, check. Lug wrench... uh, no lug wrench. But we do find a large Cresent wrench. We also found a length of pipe to use as a a cheater bar. We set to work on getting the car jacked, and getting the flat tire off. It actually went pretty well, until the last lug nut. I won't go into detail about the struggle we went through trying to get that last lug nut off, but it took up hours. We haven't seen a car all day. We're out of water. We're in the middle of a vast desert. In one last desperate attempt I turned to my trusty Vice Grip. We couldn't get a decent purchase upon the nut with the Cresent wrench. It would just slide off as soon as we applied force. So, the Vice Grip can Grip with the force of a vice. But our cheater pipe wouldn't fit over the end. So, I take to tapping on it. Not great monster blows, just tapping. It took about an hour, but it did finally break loose. We drove out of the desert and everyone lived happily ever after.

I have to thank you. I've been working on the electrical system on my 1988 Foretravel Grand Villa for days and it was because of watching your videos that I was able to persevere through the challenges. I was in waaay over my head when I bought this, my first RV, but I'm learning and today my CAT engine fired right up. You really helped me Derrick, that's why I subscribed; that, and I love the show.

I've had 4 3rd Gen Camaro's, and I'm currently restoring an 85, and you're absolutely right. That is the cleanest interior in a 3rd Gen that I have ever seen. Most dashes are all busted up, front seats worn-out, and back seats are faded. Very good find and awesome video.

So underrated. 3rd gen was born in the wrong time .. it had such a good feel and suspension ( for it's time) if you get 1 without rust ( not a bunch ) and throw in an LS 3 .. and some bolt on's upgrade the suspension.. the thing is a monster ... 3,200 lbs of t-top glory and you will never not have a smile when you are in it or hear it .. if you didn't figure out I love them .. and I'm in my 1st project for 1 .. my 1st car was a 82 with a 350 ... I never stopped loving them and now I have her back #forlife #3rdgen

I had the 83 v6 model back in 1996. I got it from a mechanic who stuffed a 305 tpi, a 5 speed trans and a posi rear end. I was 18. It was a monster with flow masters and some light internal engine work had been done. Not sure what. Needless to say I wrecked it on the freeway in the rain. Spun it out and backed into a concrete wall Doing 70mph. Loved that car. It was a beast! Uncontrollable on sht tires and blown out shocks 😂 but fun to drive. By the time I was done with it, brakes were junk, suspension was all kinds of blown out, and the tires were garbage. That’s when I wrecked it. I didn’t know better. I was 18 and on a rampage to show off every day all day.

I bought a new 84 Firebird. It had a 2.8L V6 with a 5 speed manual transmission. I had nothing but problems with this car. First I chose the Firebird over the Camaro because the V6 was listed as a high output . That car couldn't get out of its own road. Things that went wrong: Starter solenoid Clutch slave cylinder Clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder sold as a unit prebled and a bear to put in. Cruise control not assembled correctly. Transmission went out because of a leaking back up sending unit. Differential went bad. Door seals and seat belt buckles were replaced on a recall . Check if yours were replaced . There were other things I can't remember . I didn't see what engine you had for all the mess of hoses and wires the same as on mine . Good luck with yours.

Far out! Recently (last couple of weeks) used Dupli Color Rust Fix on a car that had been sitting outside in the elements for way too long. When I bought the can, I checked the label for and useful information and noted it was made in the USA. So I knew it would work. And blow me down, here is Derek using the same product! That gives me more confidence! And I am on the other side of the planet...

Nice job! My first car was a '89 Toyota Supra twin cam turbo inline hemi six I believe. $153 car payment $176 insurance payment. They were right for an 18 year old SMH... "Great" lol. I may or may not have overheated it at 143 mph on my way to a Ball State party one evening when I was 19 in Indiana. I sold it to a coworker but he got drunk and wrecked it right before I was going to buy it back unfortunately. They were cool cars! You could abuse them and they just kept going. It's always fun getting sideways.

More proof you are the man to watch on the KZfaqs. Any guy could just have never showed the car again and sold it off "as is" and claimed you kept your word, but that's just not the VGG way. Much respect from Iowa! Also, since this is no Iroc-z or anything, I think the louvers do the car good. Being a base model there isnt much happening the rear, that and it covers the giant 3rd gen rear window 👌
