1984 Culligan Water Systems Commercial from KDKA 12/2/1984 .
During the 1984 Summer & Winter Olympics, Beatrice Foods, a large corporate conglomerate started adding a tagline to each commercial for a brand they owned. This was not restricted to food products, as Beatrice Foods owned other companies, such as a tannery and this water system company.
On a personal level, as long time Massachusetts resident, who lived one town away from Woburn.... I find this ad offensive.
Around the time this ad aired, Beatrice Foods, along with the WR Grace Company were defendants in lawsuit stating that a tannery Beatrice owned in Woburn, MA (currently the site of the Anderson RTC Commuter Rail Station) was polluting Woburn town wells via the Aberjona River. Beatrice lost the suit & was forced to pay restitution.
Jan Schlichtmann, the attorney representing the case wrote a book about the trial called "A Civil Action" which was made into a 1999 feature film of the same name.
My point: You mean to tell me Beatrice foods owned a water filtration company at the same time they were being sued in court for polluting drinking water? Oh the irony.. (and sadness)
