An excerpt from the marvelously depressing film version of 1984, which has a few other parts floating around KZfaq. Here, Winston Smith comes home from an office crappier than Initech could ever dream of being, about to crack open his diary for the first time.
Something about that voice is hypnotic.

@GrandPianolaMusic Yes, I remember that, but I always thought that the telescreen had a wide field of view, and that the space it couldnt see was a corner behind a weight bearing pillar(or so) which would protrude into the room. I think so because the telescreeens are everywhere, and in the holding cell, where winston ends up with his neighbour, there are four of them (if i remember correctly) one on each wall, so they can not be that big, since there are a couple prisoners in the cell. There is also one hidden behind a picture in the room, in the prole are.

Damn this scene is so eerily realistic today. Listen to the man on the screen as he confesses to a litany of crimes to the public at large. Did we not just witness this recently in our society ? All types of folks from all walks of life recently confessed of their supposed crimes about their sexual improprieties before the entire world. Al Franken and all of the rest confessed their crimes before the world. Orwell could truly see into the future and life is unfolding in the way that he predicted. And quite frankly, it scares the hell out of me.

Thought crime is Thinking for yourself in an important individualistic way. The party only wants actions that taken that are for its benefit and preservation. That's why in the book and movie they decrease the dictionary with each new issue. They don't want you seeing the truth or devising ways to overthrow the party. It's like this. When the party tells you to jump they want to hear how high. They dont want to hear is it safe or i dont think thats a good idea. Only do it. If they hold up 5 fingers and say they are holding up 2. Than they are holding up 2. Only obedience will suffice.

Its time to get right with Jesus. nobody is automatically gonna go to heaven at the end of it, we all have lied or stolen or had sex before marriage and the punishment is hell. Jesus died so you can get a clean slate and forgiveness of future sins if you repent of them if you commit them, so you receive the gift of forgiveness by following him. When you start you have to stop sinning willfully, and follow his word and obey it, strive to do those things. That’s following the Lord Jesus. Read the Bible and find wisdom..
