These old S-Series trucks were pretty awesome rigs. I own 2 school buses on these chassis. The 6.9/7.3IDI did not make much low end power like the DT466's did, so you might be able to get away with a 5.38 rear if you are hauling heavy stuff. Light loads, a 4.78 might work for you. That rear axle is a Spicer F170 (one of my buses has that same axle), and it is a decent rear end. As for the injectors, did the kit with the plastic spacers come with new o-rings/copper washers? I seem to remember there being a copper washer or o-ring on top when my first bus still had it's 7.3IDI. Feel free to hit me up--I am a wealth of knowledge with these old S-series.

Thank you for the input!! I don't plan on hauling much with it at all, actually thinking of just putting pickup bed on it and cleaning it up! I now put new injectors on it and the copper crush washers too, no leaks now!! I'll do another video soon! Where would I go to find a ring and pinion!? I want to put a tach in it to see what it's running at 55 mph seems to be high rpm at that speed..

@gausaleengarage7076 i would change the whole third member - it's way easier, and most truck salvage or driveline shops would have that exact diff with different gears. It was used from the Loadstar chassis all the way to the late 90s/early 2000s.

How do you operate the dump bed? I have a 1984 S1700 International.

There is a hydraulic pump that runs off the PTO/Transmission. You engage that and then should have hydraulic levers to control the up/down
