I continue to have warm start issues so I thought that I may have leaking fuel injectors. Although it didn't help, I now have new injectors that seem to work better than the old ones.

Thank you for these helpful how to videos that actually show how to get the job done. I am so tired of other sites that either just want to sell stuff or bs on a soapbox about the cars. Please keep them coming.

Haha. I can’t get on a soapbox when I can barely get the job done.. make sure to use a hex bit here. I think the problem is I used a allen and stripped them. Take care, Larry.

I appreciate how real your video is, I’m thinking of tackling the fuel injectors this winter and it’s nice to get advice on where the frustration points might be. I love Mercedes Source and Kent but he makes the jobs look so easy and clean, what seems like it should take an hour ends up taking four because things inevitably break, strip, get stuck or don’t fit.

Thanks for watching. Yea, I like to give it straight from a normal guy's perspective. From what I learned so far, a BP blaster is your best friend. Grab one of those. Also, I used the wrong tool. It's not an allen but a hex head. Have both on standby from a good tool manufacturer. Harbor Freight tools suck on these tight bolts. You got this. Good luck!

Great Job! It’s always a chore to start when work was done on the upper fuel system. The warm start is mostly affected by the fuel accumulator next to the fuel pump. They were specifically integrated to eliminate warm-start problems. I got mine from Kent Bergsma Mercedessource. He has the best price for those. On your model the warmup regulator may also need to be checked. With greetings from Kansas, Peter

Thanks Peter. I changed the pump and accumulator months ago. Solved the problem back then but now it's back. I wonder if it's defective or something else. I'll continue chasing until I get frustrated and take it to a pro.

Man I appreciate your videos so very much! So much of the information from the MB manual assumes a level of mechanical knowledge that I don't have. It is really helpful seeing you figure out problems and then explaining them in a way I can understand. Now I am looking around for a good quality 5mm Allen socket so I can tackle my injectors!

Thanks man! I’m glad they help and I appreciate you leaving a message. I never know who’s out there watching! Not only do you want a quality socket but also check if you need a Torx head. You have a fuel injector tester on the car, Just take the fuel dist loose leave all the lines hooked up, put the injectors back on the end of hard lines, jump fuel pup relay and press on the pintel to make the injectors spray, watch and evaluate. more than likely the fuel dist needs rebuilt, Just my 2 cents,, should have got a 560, they are so much a better car!

Thanks for the comment. The car is running all well now. You were right on the distributer and the 560. In another video, the mechanic diagnosed a bad piece on the distributer. That fixed everything: no shaking at start and no warm start issues. Also in another video, I recommended a 560 over the 380. Thanks for watching.

Funny enough, I just did the same thing on my SL380 (US) just two days ago. Couldn´t managed to exchange all of them due to the screws. But hey, I had some issues with the idle running (warm), too. If you need some support with it, let me know. The were several steps or areas I checked: There is an overvoltage relais on the passenger side (fuse was blown the whole time). Once this worked again, my idle running controller (not the Jetronic controller) quit its job, so it needed an overhaul. As well, two vacuum lines weren´t connected to the throttle valve properly. And I changed the o-rings on the fuel distributer and the diaphrame rubber (can cause too rich mix on one chamber). All necessary stuff, but in the end it was one fuel injector that cause an unstable warm idle run. And, there is the chance that somebody fiddled with the acceleration rods- if the one connected to the throttle valve was manipulated, it is slidely open in idle and causes a poor mixture. Checking the spark plugs can help to figure if this is air, fuel, vacuum or electronically related. Well anyways, I am just glad I stumpled across your vids. Feel free to hit me up to exchange about issues with those beauties. Thanks for your videos.

Invest in highest quality tools. If you don't 10 minute job will take you hours! When you replace fasteners always get the best stuff! No grade 2 or 5 on anything metric! 10.9 and 12 only! Are you sure these original screws were "socket heads"? they look like star heads to me (very common in automotive assembly). General rule is you cannot mix Allen wrenches with star bits. You will damage stuff.

Couple of questions...1) why did you decide to replace fuel injectors? (2) My car doesn't start in P most of the times. The person I purchased it from said that I should move the gear to N and try starting. I works every time. Not sure why and what the issue is, but cold or hot, 95% of the times my car starts only when the gear is in N. It just doesn't even crank in P. If you know why, let me know. I have the same exact car, including the color, 1982 model.

Oh man. I wish I knew. As you can probably tell, I’m not a mechanic. I’m just screwing around with my car. I wonder if it’s a transmission or sensor issue. I’d ask on the benzworld forums. Those guys are helpful…. I changed mine for a couple of reasons. I had zero records for the car and didn’t know when they were last changed. Also, I was having warm start issues and I was reading that the injectors may be leaking fuel and flooding the engine. Well that wasn’t the case. It was actually starving for fuel. The issue was fixed on a different video. Thanks for watching and good luck.

With your starting issue, first of all, you need to make sure that the inhibitor switch on the side of the automatic transmission is adjusted correctly, and if it is, and you can only operate the starter in neutral position and not in parking position then I suggest for you to renew the inhibitor switch assembly. I hope I was able to help you solve your starting problem.

The WUR can be repaired with a kit. If you are going that route ensure it is done by someone knowledgeable. I would recommend to buy a new one. Not cheap. When I changed the WUR on my 1983 280SL all the start up problems with a warm engine went away; also the WUR plays a key role in acceleration, and that improved immensely.
