The raucous Nina Hagen describes her spiritual beliefs to Merle Ginsberg. To this day I wonder about the 4 time tunnels. Videowave is a TV and Internet program featuring artists and music ignored by the mass media. February 1984. #ninahagen #MerleGinsberg #ndw

If you have known Nina, the artist, the singer, for all these years that she has been around, one thing you would know for certain is what an amazing, beautiful heart and tender soul has she. Whatever the challenges she has had in her life, she has always been the same as a performer and always the same as a person - love. The journey I have been on with her via her music and the changes in her music over the years, were part of an evolution of Nina, and as I grew and was growing and appreciate artists and musicians, I felt at home with most of the material she wrote and performed. In a concert many years ago, she was trying to explain something but she wasn't happy with the way she was expressing it in English, so she stopped, and said, "You understand me and know what I am saying. You even understand me when I sing or speak in German." And, then she sang song in German, and of course we all knew the song and everyone was dancing and absorbing her energy. Whether the Mother of Punk or the Godmother of Punk, whatever you want to call her, I have found that the people who love her are good people, compassionate, kind, intelligent, funny, and non-judgmental. She was correct, of course, I don't always know what she is saying when singing in German, but I am still moved by her voice and her music. I loved it when she used to release Two of the same album - one in English and the same album in German - Fearless and Angstlos, and I realized I did understand a lot of what she was conveying. Only one song was I completely wrong. Erfurt & Gera. I played it for a German visitor to LA, and he begged me to turn it off because it was so tragic and sad.... I had no idea. The song is rather bouncy and I loved the part where the horn honks... I hadn't yet sat down and read the lyrics in German, nor attempted to translate. I got to meet Nina at a club in LA years ago too. She was very sweet and funny, but a bit overwhelmed by the attention. She just wanted to hang out and see what was going on in this very interesting club. I would rarely approach any celebrity in public, but when I did, I was always respectful and gave them a comfortable amount of space because, they don't know you... I met and became friends with Donna Summer for many years, and I played Nina Hagen music (mostly produced by Giorgio Moroder) and Donna liked it a lot. And, if I am ever feeling really sad and down about something, if I play Nina Hagen, she always takes my blues away. I love her. Jesus said, you must become like little children... meaning, strive to have a pure heart like a child does. Nina is like that.

This is not Lady Gaga. Gaga would go on an acid trip and believe she was God. Nina goes on an acid trip, meets God, learns his name is Michael, they have intense philosophical discussions, and they become besties. Nina is clearly the superior here.

I ADORE ninAHAgen ! I have been a super loyal.fan since 1980, my favorite favorite record of all time from any artist is Nunsexmonkrock, for the 30 plus years ive been listening to it i always find something new. I also live amd appreciate how she reinvents herself musically all the time but always remains the one true unique ninahagen. Its not only her music but its her message. She is a true guru and her promotion of good and love and God and peace will always remain a huge influence in my life. and for those of you ragging on Lady GaGa, i think she is one of the most creative things to come out of the music scene since the 2000s, everyone else is just plain boring. any interview ive ever read she always gives credit to artists that she admired growing up and if she takes a little from here and a little from there, then so be it, maybe shell get the younger generation interested in the Leaders and Founders of Punk, post punk and New Wave like Queen Nina and Klaus Nomi and Kate Bush and Lene Lovich, etc...who otherwise may go unnoticed because they arent in the spotlight anymore. She is unique for HER generation, and like her or not, you have to admit she has BALLS for wearing and doing some of the things she does , and her message is the same. Shes for the underdog. Shes a mish mash of all the originals, and interprets them her own way, but keeps them alive. she reminds me of when like Annoe Lennox experimented witb the male drag and the different wigs. Dont you think our gurus have a few copied interpretations from their generation like David Bowie and Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Marianne Faithful, etc....its not a competition, shouldnt be compared, it should be applauded for keeping our heros going strong....Nina Hagen will always be the frontrunner and leader of her unique sound and message, so lets not bury it!! Lets keep it going and celebrate it !!!! ALL OVER AGAIN. Listen to Nunsexmonkrock again right now, youll get what im trying to say...LOL..Thank you Nina Hagen for YEARS of happiness and for continuing to create more !💖

"Videowave is a TV and Internet program featuring music ignored by the mass media. February 1984" Nina Hagen is a massive celebrity in Germany and has had multiple international hits. She's been interviewed by famous American talk show hosts. I don't know what you consider "ignored by the mass media", but this woman has been one of the most famous German women since the 1970s and is still constantly on TV to this day.

Ignored relative to her talent. First hit to chart in the U.S.--1983. First album to chart in the U.S.--November 1983 Not referring to Germanophone countries. Homework: Compare the top-viewed interview of Nina Hagen with a top-viewed American "massive celebrity" interview (e.g. Madonna, Prince, MJ)

Funny when I was dying I only saw darkness. Maybe because I wasn't on LSD... When we die, there is nothing. I don't understand why people fear death. I fear only dying, but not death. Its a relief, no pain, no worries, no bullies. Its just sleeping forever without dreams. Everyone of us just think his existence is so meaningful, but remember, we are all exchangeable. If we die then 100 years later no one will remember us. For most its even less than 50 years. Maybe it sounds hard for most of you, but once you accept it and accept that your existence is completely meaninless for the universe, because you are just a little nothing for it, you can live your life the way you want. Its pure freedom! That's what I learned from my near death experience.
@minstac1530
@minstac1530 Жыл бұрын
That's exactly how I see it but I knew that before my own near death experience. The NDE just confirmed it lol. Like you said there was nothing no thoughts, no visuals..nada. I can see why some people aren't ok with that and I think that fear comes from the ego.

Carambas, all these comments about Nina Hagen and Lady Gaga... Certainly being a female artist is a huge challenge. 30 years of difference between one and the other and it all comes down to saying who copies who and who's a poseur and so on. As if both or whomever comes in the future cannot coexist with the memories, expertise and creative outputs of those who came before.

She was absolutely brilliant at what she did. This interview however, was scripted by her. Trust me on that. She constantly tried to fit into the box of anglocentric, rock , pop star icon. Well, she always compared herself to that. She didn't need to though, she just assumed that the world wouldn't take an East German girl seriously. Bless her. ❤️🌹

This business of young people today only acknowledging talents from their own generation is a unique phenomena. I deal with it by just saying: It's your world now and you can keep your Hip Hop and Lady Gaga's, Justin Biebers, etc. etc,. to yourselves etc., etc. In my generation, Today's "talent" would not of been tolerated, even by the 12 year olds of the time.

She's a comedian. She's a Rock fraud. She's a created character. Her real talent is acting out her image not musical talent. I enjoy her for her entertainment value but certainly not as a serious artist. I'm OK with it but I'm surprised that there are some that believe she's a musical artist. She's 1009% show business. I'm not criticizing her talent to entertain but let's keep our musical perspective straight. She's entertaining and fun but please realize she's an entertainer NOT a serious singer or musician. Let's keep it real folks! There are thousands of opera singers that can sing at her level. Who cares?
@user-qz7ug7lj7c

Maybe your musical perception is confused? I think it can be frustrating to not get something,but it seems to me like that feeling is coloring your analysis of her. Rock fraud? She never stuck with any one genre of music for too long so I guess she is a rock fraud and punk fraud and disco fraud etc. you don’t normally see a classically trained singer venture into these genres in such a way. She’s not just an opera singer so your point about other opera singers existing i don’t get. Naturtrane of her debut album version is a remarkably beautiful piece of music.But maybe your standards of operatic and rock singing are higher than that for serious artists?
